Default New Member Question - Shopping for a GT Convertible!

I'm a newbie to the forums and am here for some advice from you Mustang veterans

I've been shopping and shopping and haggling away and I have a GT that I am looking at and am really interested in.

I'm looking at an '06 Convertible GT Mustang with 16,742 miles on it. The starting price was $26,995. My husband and I have whittled the price down to $22,250 + Tax & Lic.
They said this is as low as they can go. Is this a good price?

AutoTrader link to the car: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...amp;cardist=24
Any thoughts/feedback would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

I test drove the car, everything is great in it. It has minor wear and tear on the driver's side seat- nothing major though. The only thing I don't like about it which they said can be removed is the person who had it before put a chrome-looking thing with flames covering the gas tank and chrome-looking things on the door handles. They're just glued on.

Thank you guys so much for taking the time to answer my questions, I really appreciate it!!!!

I think that is a good price for an '06 with low miles. Sticker is $31,000 new.

Well...think is a good price. The interior looks good and the mileage is relatively low for a 2 yr old car. Black is a hard color to keep clean and it takes lots of effort...so how's the paint? Lots of swirls? The flame thingys should not be a difficult thing to remove, but ask the dealer to remove them for you....

- is the engine completely stock?
- does to top lowers and raises smoothly?
- does the top leak? Raise it up, lock it then use a garden hose in a "rain" fashion and have someone inside see if it leaks. Dont force the water in...
- play a cd...Shaker 500 has lots of problems.
- check the battery...have them do a load test to ensure is all good. bet that puppy has gone dead once or twice.
- are the windows scratched? Specially the driver side....2005-06 models came with a defective weather stripping and many of us have solved the problem with moleskin...that's another topic.

This is a good price.

And I was gonna point out the gas cap cover and door handles, also the stickers on the trunk lid.
But good thing you know you are going to take them off.

Go for it, it's a great car.

$31k? Yeah, maybe with no toys.. Sticker on mine was $35,040. I paid $29,900.

And, according to KBB, for my zip code, if mine was still BONE STOCK, the private party resale value is $25k. I'm happy with that.

If you can pick one up with <20k miles for ~$22k, that's pretty good, I think. I have 16k on mine.

By way of comparison, a guy at my office just bought an '07 convertible, loaded. It was a demo car, had 1300 miles on it. The dealer got him for $34,500. Sticker was $37k and change. My secret? I bought it in March in the middle of a snowstorm, and took one off the lot, didn't order it. They just happened to have a fully loaded black 5-speed, so I lucked out.
