ORIGINAL: SONICBOOST3

The frpp cams sound really good but I don't think they have come out yet. I am waiting for them.

The Frpp cams might be the ones I heard of

I believe you're thinking of the FRPP "Hot Rod" cams which I do think are out. There's a good video on YouTube showing what they sound like.

I'm looking into at some point getting the Comp Cam stage 3 that Breenspeed sells. They got some very nice gains from them. The idle may not be a lot different than stock, but with these engines it seems you get one or the other; sound or power. At least that's what I've seen so far.

the frpp hot rod cams sound wicked but I dont know how much hp they are claiming. I dont think they are the best cams out their unless you want the lopey sound.

hahaha...

with the BBR's, you would probably need valve springs and retainers, which I think beehive offers in a kit.

I thought the stage 3 Comp Cams sounded amazing in my opinion. They had a decently rough idle and decent gains... The only characteristic though of the stage 3 comps that I like is the thousand dollars you pay for everything (not including tune however).

Just a note here.....

unless your guy knows how to tune the car well, you arent going to get the best gains. Some people have dumped 2000 into cams, springs and such and tuning and only got 25 HP peak gains

Brenspeed has the NSR cams that are 699 and with install and tune runs atleast 500 less than the 2000 and gets just about the same gains.

Matt, did you ever get to getting the NSR cams? if you do, please post some dyno sheets or something. I am curious as hell to see how the NSR cams do... (with the assist of a good tune).

I have a guy that does good tuning for my car. I'm more after the sound then the power until I build the block...

the FRPP's state they don't need new valve springs, is this for sure? I'm assuming they would be right since they know the motor best than anyone

Well, if your going for sound, BBR will accomplish that... as for the Hot Rod cams, you kind of have to go with what it says (just like the NSR). You dont need springs for the hot rod cams.

Im curious though to see how the NSR or these hot rod cams do. I want to know because a friend of mine (with a camaro) was telling me how if a set of cams for my car doesnt need new springs or retainers, than the cams arent good compared to the ones that require new springs and retainers. Now of course, he drives a camaro, but I am definetly curious to see how these cams hold up to the stage 3 comps, crowers, and the BBR stage 2's.

So basically with the FRPP's I will be buying that $740 kit + install + tune? Which are both going to be free for me

If I go with the BBR Stage 2 cams, what spring kit should I get? And is there any big difference between the billet and the non-billet stage 2's?
