Default 1st gear or clutch Rattle?

In first gear when feathering the clutch peddle say going through a fast food drive through where you can hear it more I get a annoying rattle or gear noise only when going slow in 1st I took the car to a ford dealer and they said it is normal? I am going to take it to another dealer to get a second opinion or test drive another manual s197. Anybody also have noticed this!?

If it's more of a clunking sound then it's probably the two piece drive shaft you're hearing. If it's a whining sound then I don't know what to tell you...

you are talking about the chatter right?? i get it to on a very very slow roll feathering the clutch, i've learned that im just letting the clutch out a little to much when feathering it and have it to the point of almost fully engaged but slippin it a lil...... its hard to explain but i know exactly what your talking about... try when slipping it to keep the clutch pressed a little more than you normally do when slipping it, that should stop it, at least it did for me.

Wow, this thread jumped right out at me. I have the exact same problem, and have also been to a dealership who passed it off as normal. This is not a clunk so much as a combination of a chatter with a rattle that is noticable when starting off, I would say from 1k RPMs and below. I've found it gets a lot louder/worse once the car is fully warmed up, in fact, often times I can't even reproduce it when the car is cold.

Please keep us up to date if you find the cause and/or solution to this one. It's really annoying and sounds like something's going to fall off my NEW car [:@]

Okay, I guess I'll live with it if I have to. Anyone know WHY or WHAT is rattling?

EDIT: (Thanks Moose and Brian)

sounds like clutch chatter. keep the clutch pressed in a little more when rolling out slowly. Happens to me all the time when I get lazy.

If the clutch is not fully engaged or fully disengaged then it's going to cause some noise. It's most likely the clutch disk shaking on the input shaft. It fits on their pretty tight, but it's not pressed on or anything, so there's a little play there.
