Whipple 12 psi question
I just had a Whipple H.O. kit installed. It made 461 rwhp, I want more, I called Mike from whipple and he told me to put a 12 psi pulley to get more power. He also said that i dont have to retune if i used the whipple tune. He said they have a 05 GT making over 500rwhp with stock internals, that they drive hard on a daily basis and the thing is perfect. What do you guys think about the 12 psi pulley? Will the stock motor handle it? Thanks

RE: Whipple 12 psi question
They do have an 05GT that they abuse constantly, and it is running 12 psi. It seems some have no problems, others do. Recently there was a post with 6 of 8 con rods perforating someones block with 12 psi.

RE: Whipple 12 psi question
I would not do it and though the tunes help protect the motor....it is not 100%. Unless you can tell me with 100% certainity that the motor won't blow then go for it.... I have 465 RWHP and personally I am very happy with it and would not think of running the car over 500 RWHP without at least forged internals. Many people are showing up on this forum that have Whipples and have blown their stock motors with less HP @ the rear wheels. NOT all internals or blocks are created equally because they were made by humans and nothing is perfect no matter how hard you try.... JMO BUT DONT DO IT! Be happy with what you have and enjoy it and get used to it. If you want to up the boost get forged internals (maybe this should have been considered before getting the whipple;)). Yes- others have run higher boost and higher RWHP but IMO the motor WILL at some point break....just the question is when? WE DONT KNOW! J

I think the OP will find it helpful. It certainly was for me...

RE: Whipple 12 psi question
Im glad it did and I just sent you a PM regarding the thread you started..... take care J

RE: Whipple 12 psi question
12psi is pushing the envelope IMO unless you run a really conservative tune, but by then a "standard" tune for 10psi would probably be within a few hp.
Honestly 465rwhp is a good number for 10psi. Good luck. |
RE: Whipple 12 psi question
I am running 493rwhp @10psi...its all about the tune

RE: Whipple 12 psi question
just go for it!
