Question about vortech S/Cer
So I just ordered the non IC vortech S/cer from brenspeed and the guy asked me if I wanted the self lubed vortec S/cer or the one that is lubed by the oil pan. First of all I didnt even know that vortech had a self lubed system. Second what are the advantages and disadvatages of both? I have to tell them which one I want by tomorrow so a little input quick would be great. Thanks

RE: Question about vortech S/Cer
the self lube is a new feature (hey that sounds kinky). the other set up is to tap the oil pan. if your doing the install the self lube set up will save you a few steps in tapping and running the oil pan/lines. IMO the benefit to the tapped pan is that ever time you change engine oil you change blower oil. so you save a step there.

RE: Question about vortech S/Cer
It's all personal preference.
I've got the older style Vortech S/C that taps into the oil pan and love it. Mine also has the intercooler. I put down 428rwhp on a Mustang Dyno with only 8.11 and a conservative tune.

RE: Question about vortech S/Cer
when I got mine about 18 months ago.. there was no self lube option.
I have the HO kit....
My car made 435 on a MD and has run a best of 12.3 @ the track (3970 race weight)

RE: Question about vortech S/Cer
question is(if you are doing the install) how confident do you feel about tapping your oil pan and removing all the shavings and what not, and i would also see if brenspeed has any r&d with the self lubed units, last time i asked them about the paxton self lubed units they said they had not installed one yet. i would try to see if they have installed them and have they had any problems with the units. i think allot of people dont go for them because the other systems have been around for ages and you know what you are going to get when you buy it. the self lube is just so new that therearen't enough people running them for people to feel confident to try it out. my 2 cents

RE: Question about vortech S/Cer
Go wit the self lubed (SL)kit unless you get a great price on non-SL kit. Tapping the oil pan is not that difficult with the right tools. Go online and search - you'll find a vortech video that shows you how to do it.
Performance wise they are the same. Only thing is if you decide to go another route later (Ie., twin screw) and you have a hole in your pan. But you could probably putty/fabricate a fix.
