Default few questions about 1st time at track tonight

hey guys i am finally going to give in and go to the race track tonight. its only a lil 1/8th mile track here in nashville. never done the legal drag racing thing before. just wondering if anybody has any pointers for a beginner. i might just go to watch how others are launching. i have been to the track before but was just along for the ride in my uncles 03 cobra with 553rwhp. 11 sec 1/4 miles. so any and all pointers will be greatly apprecaited. thanks

well are you running on street tires? cause if so, I wouldnt suggest doing too big of a burnout. just slip them through the water to get all the rocks and **** off. but when I ran on the street tires, they hooked pretty damn good from about 2500... with a very little burn out.

launch at 3rd yellow light. Dont be afraid of breaking the beam, you won't. The time that takes the yellow light to turn into the green go light is almost the same as what your brain takes to react to the change of lights. That is what I do, and I get .500 reaction time (.465 being the lowest someone can get dunno why)

Drive around the water box and then back in. Driving through with street tires drags water out of the water box and into the launch area.

id try around on what to launch on. My first time to the track I pulled my best et by launching at 4K and feathering the clutch. But mainly have fun with it. Your first run you will probably be really nervous but just try and stay calm. My first run I got my *** whooped my a low 12sec 5.0 so it made he made it easy for me lol

damn. thanks guys for all the info. my uncle drags a lot at memphis motorsports park and told me to launch around 2200 rpm and slip the ckutch. just not sure by what he means exactly but i'll figure it out. might watch for little bit and then try my hand. not nervous yet but get me in front of the tree and i will probably get that way quick. just going to have some fun and see what she can do. tryin to drive to doug's on sat if he is open to get a torque, performance, and you know the infamous race tunes uploaded. try those out for the rest of the summer.
but i think with me having the 3.55 gears 1/8 mile wont be so bad. have to get to memphis soon though to get on a 1/4 mile track. post results sometime soon. thanks again for all the info.

Skip the water box if you are able too. Street tires will pick up water and hold it in the tread. This water will then drop onto the track. With street tires just spin them to clean off the rocks and debris, as said earlier. You don't need water on street tires to be able to spin them, and all-season tires don't perform better when heated (I'm assuming you are on the stock all-season pirellis). Everyone is nervous their first time and most usually do pretty horribly on their first run,but you will get acclimated quickly. Warning: the drag strip is very addictive! Have fun and good luck!
