Can somebody give me an idea of how hard it is to change out cams. I was able to figure out my S/Cer, is it harder or easier install then that?

definitely harder than a supercharger, but can still be accomplished by a home mechanic. You'll need more specialized tools then the sc install required.

Your will need Ford service tools made by OTC. They are the valve Spring compressor 303-1039 and the timing chain locking tool 303-1175 which you can buy @ http://www.fordspecialtools.com/Main.aspx The tools cost around 238.00.

Well the cams that I'm getting don't require changing out the valve springs, but they say you can for more hp. Do you thiink that its a waste of time changing out the camshafts and not the valve springs? Is it one of those things that if you have the money and your down there you might as well do it. And if I wasn't going to change to valve springs would I still need those tools?

You will still need both. The timing wedge will hold the chain in place so your timing doesn't get out of wack. You will also need the compressor to remove and reinstall the cam followers. The followers will need to come out before the stock cams are removed and replaced after the new cams are installed. I think the Ford manual suggests removing only three, but I have heard of
guys removing all of them. It's not that difficult.

What about the valve springs, should I change those while I'm down there, or is that even harder to do?

No you don't have to get new springs if you get an NSR cam like ford's Hot Rod cams. Yes it is a little more involved when changing the springs. What cam are you looking at?

turbobirdguy: your link didn't work cause it has a four letter word in it but I'm sure I can guess, theres really not many that MF wont accept.
jmose: These cams I'm most interested in are from comp cam, better high end and I was going to go 3.73 anyways.

Another set of cams that I like are the stage one of these, more for the middle end, thats why in the write up its says best with stock gears.
http://www.lethalperformance.com/pag...alve-cams.html

But these are both (if you didn't read the write up) made for engines with blowers, thats why I most interested in these two. I plan on intercooling my S/Cer as soon as I get back to the mainland from Hawaii where the shipping doesn't cost an arm and a leg, so I'm looking for something that can handle some boost. The plan is to get to 12 psi someday. I know I'm pretty far away but for now I'm really interested in installing cams and gears. If there are cams that anybody else might think will give me more power and will go with my system now and in the future I'd love to see them. Thanks jmose you've been a great help.
