Gas ping from 93 tune?
has anyone experience gas ping from running 93 tune, i just put my tune on, when i took it out for a spine and got on it, i heard this horrible noise from the engine sounding like a rattle which im sure it was gas ping, i had 87 in it but ran it down till it was almost empty do you think that could of been the problem.and there is 93 in it now.thanks

It might depend on how low you ran it down. Although ourcars can adjust tominor octane differences, you couldbe about 1 1/2 octane short if you only filled from 1/4 of a tank. Don't get on it until you've run the current tank down some more and refill again with 93. If it still pings, contact your tuner for help.

hmm.. I wonder if that is due to some issue's I've heard of 1) Gas stations screw up and put the wrong octane in their tanks I heard that happens more frequently than I'd like to consider.. 2) Higher octane gas loses octane quickly (or perhaps they lose it all at the same rate) However, especially now, 93 octane sells much slower than the lowest octane available.. like 93 octane only makes up like 5% of gasoline sales.. that slow rate can cause the gas to get old.. 3) I just wanted 3 numbers in here because I didn't really need to number these thoughts at all..

RE: Gas ping from 93 tune?
I've always had problems with pinging with my car (except when it was new). I have to run higher octane than the tune calls for (even stock tune).
Right now I have a 91 Race tune from Bama running with 93 gas and in the afternoon when I'm leaving work, it's about 95 to 100 out (I'm in Tx) and I get a good amount of pinging from 4K RPM and up. In the morning when it's much cooler (70s I guess) it's fine. I thought by getting the 91 tune and running 93 gas it would help but I guess since it's so hot it almost doesn't matter. I'm not sure if I should just keep the RPMs low in the heat or talk to Doug about it.

Filled up with 93 octane at a different station duringa 2 years ago, and the pinging was horrific at WOT. Kept out of the pedal untilthe tankwas almost empty, filled up at my usual watering hole, and no more pinging.
Filled up at my usual local station last week before a trip to the shore, and it pingedwhile getting onto the turnpike at WOT. Filled up againat astation at the shore, and the pinging stopped.

i hope the pinging goes away, because i sure do like getting on it, i just dont want to mess anything up.
