DJ, sorry if i missed it, but did you
say how the car feels when you
take off from a stop....

a little loss of torque, or what

Hammeron, I have not noticed any decrease in torque but consider too that I am running 20" wheels which robs some. Personally, I think it feels stronger but that is just a gut feel but I also changed several other aspects too, including going from 3.55 to 3.73 gears and adding the shorty tuned headers which is supposed to help bottom end torque.

I am OLD school myself. I have owned many many solid lifter performance cars that hada .550 solid lifter cam or higher, and idled like 2-cycle snowblower. I dont think there is any point to changing cams in a car unless you are going to gain performance. I have not seen one single piece of evidence to say FRRP Hot Rod cams do anything except give youLSA that idles really rough.

So people who areposting up and down on these forums are just making it out like these cams are good. Until i see a performance gain from the cams, who freaking cares what they idle like?
If you think 50 HP for a set of ported heads and cams is good then go for it.
Heads 2000
head gaskets 150
ARP studs 300
cams 800
phasers 150
labor 1500 (heads and cams)

there is 5000 in upgrades if you cant do the heads and cams yourself.
If you get 50 HP from that then it seems like it is very costly.

Personally if someone wants to change out their cams for the sound then I dont see why not? I dont go to the track and probably will never go. The only reason why I would put cams in are for the sound. Its no different then someone going out and buying ghetto *** 20" wheels and slapping them on their car. Not saying 20s are ghetto by the way before I get bashed. Im talking about those ugly *** ghetto 20 inch spinner crap haha.

agreed.

i think the consensus is, as long as the cams
dont LOSE power, then we are good to go. it
is a SOUND mod.

i will admit that this would seem illogical to the
old school guys, but we are NEW school

To me its better than some of these people I see in norfolk, they have have these old caprices that have to be lifted because they through 26 inch rims on their ride. Its Fing hilarious. Most of them are navy people though. Thats how you can tell that your near a big *** base. All cars have nice shiny rims on them no matter if they are ****ty or nice cars.

LOL! Ghetto ***...I like that.

I'm with you though. I don't race my car and probably never will. I'm not interested in a bajillion RWHP where I can't even control the damn thing due to excessive wheel spin. Since I can't drive on the street every day with slicks there's no point. These cars stock are not slow by any means anyway and getting what you can from CAI/Tune, exhaust and a NSR cam is more than enough for the street. If someone wants a super race car, then go for it but we do not need dragsters on the street. But if it sounds like one that's cool.

Remember, these cams were not developed for the sound. These cams were developed for the Rough Rider off-road race trucks, so I doubt FRPP is going to waste their time on a sound only mod. I think that these cams will do very well with a proper tune. The only reason I can think of for FRPP to say a tune is not required is probably for warranty or emissions or, they don't want anyone tuning them with whatever profile they have reserved for the Rough Rider racing.
However, beats me, just speculating is all.
