Default On a quest for the best hooking tire...

In the quest most of are on for the best hooking tire, I spent a lot of time on the phone with MT, Hoosier, Goodyear, Adam, Phoenix, and some others and got a lot of great info. The sidewall of the MT (all versions) and the weight of our cars is the reason for the need for higher than normal psi. 'Normal' being termed in drag applications.

The Hoosier and Phoenix were similar compounds, but I really liked the optional compounds of the Goodyear Dragway Specials. A little pricey, but the D3 & D4 compounds were specifically designed for cars over 3000 lbs. The D4 seemed the best recommendation for manuals where it appears the D3 was a better choice for my set-up.

So, I just bought a set of the GDY2007. They are a 29/12-15

I'll give them a go and see if they make a difference and are worth it for the extra coin. What I like most is I should see the best results on my car with these tires set at about 10 psi.

I am very happy with my M/T drag radials, I got 275/40/17s on 17x8 stock bullits, run them at about 18-20 psi at the track, can break them loose, of course I am N/A so not a ton of horsepower but they are so soft I think anyone would be good, actually I just read somewhere somebody made an 8 second pass with M/T drag radials, pretty impressive for a non-slick !!

Well I run a little more power and the sidewall is too soft for me to really get the tires to plant with a 4000 lbs car. I know they work great for most, I throw A LOT of torque off the line on my brake so am going to try something else.

Just got to keep trying till I find what works best for me...

I love my M/T 26x11.5x17 Bias Ply ET Streets. They hook like superglue!

Did you look at M&H's? I just received the 325/45r17 racemasters today. I had been running the 275/50R17's until they wore out. I know you aren't looking for drag radials but I hear they make a nice slick as well.

Believe me - I've tried about everything out there. I'm not sold on these goodyear yet - I'm just going to try them. Big power, weight and the 3 link put together are our achiles heel with these cars.

I already know what will work for sure but I'm hoping these goodyears will do the job. If they don't, then the ***** best will be to use a super stiff sidewall MT with tubes and bead screws...
