I'm not sure about the tranny itself, but the shifters are the same

no need for a shifter like that, and a tuner is cheaper.
I like how my car shifts when drag racing in 'D' but I hate it how it shifts when merging because of the lack of engine braking,so I always put it in 2 or 3 and get the power when I need it.Also do it when passing as well, but for drag racing it makes the car slower- it feels like it doesn't shift fast enough and there is a slight hesitation as the revs go up,it's just not free revving feeling like a traditional manual...feels alot torqier down low but that's about it.

I agree. For drag racing you can't deny the auto's D performance. But when it comes to street driving (or racing where there's turns) having it in D sucks. Manual shifting is the only way to go there.

I'm hoping a new torque conv + a ratchet shifter (if they ever come out) will give me the best of both worlds.

Well I'm determined to make a ratchet shifter work, cause that would be the best of both worlds, as for one coming out made just for the S197, I'm not counting on it, both company's have been promising this thing and not delivering for to darn long now.
