Cool air intakes vs K&N

hey guys i just bought an new 08 GT 5spd. i need help choosing an intake. i had a 98 explorer i tricked out and i had a K&N on it i liked it alot and it was the popular choice. what is popular for the mustangs here i see alot of steeda and C&L popping up in all of my searches through the forums not so much K&N lol. also i see alot of people buying tuners along with it. i plan on getting a tuner after i get some axel backs on to have everything flow together. price doesnt matter. whats going to give me the most?

K&N, C&L, steeda, or anyothers i have not found yet

go with the c&l racer. and a tune from one of the tuners mentioned all throughout this forum. k&n is a non-tunable induction. no real hp gains. gains come from the tunes. expect 25-30 rwhp from the cai/tuner combo. good luck with the cai decision. enjoy the new ride. what a/b are you going with?

All of the CAI's are equivalent in performance. The differences are nominal. It's the tune that'll give you the bang-for-the-buck.

Go to the Brenspeed, Evolution or Bama website for info on combos and pricing. And feel free to call any of them with questions. Their customer service are excellent.

Welcome to the forum!

wow thats amazing that you can draw that much power with a tuner. so basically C&L and Steeda are basically the same thing but more or less what color do i like. are these the ones that are best for mustangs? what makes K&N non tunable?

also shoey i have not idea which axels yets. im stuck between the stingers, flowmasters and slps. not sure, i feel like magnaflow sounds just like stock in my opinion. i been doing alot of youtubing haha

K&N I think is just a smaller intake compared to the Steeda/C&L/JLT... I run the steeda with a tune. Every body on this forum will probably tell you that intake/tune will be the best combination of mods... because you really notice a huge difference... Especially depending on the tune.

you will definetly be satisfied with the tunes that Nuke listed for the intake...

As for axle backs... the stingers are probably my favorite. They have a perfect sound that is loud but not all raspy like the SLP's. MAC is also really good but I heard they drone a lot... I have the magnaflows and I agree, they arent loud. I do have a video on youtube but it would do you no good because I have a full exhaust setup to accompany the magnaflows...

cool thanks guys so basically my choice is between the three of them. how much of a difference do you notice the intake with out the tune. it has to be noticable since your making the airflow less restrictive.

The K&N will get you 10 to 15 HP gain, but it's not quite as much as you'd get with the Steeda/JLT/C&L intakes. I've got an '05 GT with the K&N and an SCT Xcal 3 with Bamachips tunes. I got significant gains with the CAI and then about as much more with the Bama tunes. I traded in my 97 Explorer and also had the K&N installed on it. I went K&N (out of force of habit) immediately after buying the car and then found this forum so I would have probably gone Steeda or JLT or C&L if I hadn't already gone K&N.

if you run the c&l, jlt, or steeda you will have to get the car tuned. should turn on the engine light because the cai is pulling in more air than the stock airbox.
and im in the same boat you are with the axlebacks. think i will end up going with the stingers. either the borla's or the frpp branded ones.
welcome to the forum and have fun with your new mustang.
