What does everybody recommend for gear oil? Mobil 1 75w-140 was what I was using and what I will use again unless I learn about a better oil.

I just use the factory synthetic gear oil and friction modifier.
I only use a half bottle of friction modifier though.
I was going to tell you it was the spider gears but looks like you already found it.

Would be an excellent opportunity to upgrade to an Eaton Detroit TrueTrac.
Stonger, No clutches to wear, more aggressive biasing, but still allows smooth cornering unlike a locker.
With the TrueTrac you can skip the friction modifier.

I'm not sure what the FRPP differential is, but I would get a good quality Auburn LSD or Detroit locker. The lockers are noisey but work really well.

Gene beat me to it. But an upgrade to the Auburn unti shouldn't cost you anymore than what the FRPP unit costs.

You can go to Eaton's website and read. The main difference between the two is durability IMO. The same LSD actions of the T-LOK are in the True Trac, but the true trac is a gear driven unit instead of a clutch pack unit, giving better durability. I have seen several (including mine) at the track start to loose their ability to modulate power back and forth between the rear wheels. For someone who is going to go to the track or run with some type of forced induction, I would upgrade to a better unit when replacing gears. There will be no extra labor involved and a new unit costs around $425.

I was thinking this unit solely because he has one just sitting as his house new in a box. He said he would sell it to me for 100 bucks. It must be slightly stronger then stock

That's a good buy for sure. I do not know the compatability but your mechanic should. If I were upgrading and were trying to save some cash I would get it. The difference between your and the Cobra's is the clutch pack.

The FRPP trac-lock diff. is basically an F-series 31 spline which has a stronger S spring (puts the tension on the drive gears/clutch packs). From what I know, they also have the newer style cf clutches.

But, a $100.00 is a good deal!

If money is there...........do the Tru-Trac
