The Cursed Pinging!!!!!!!

As moose said, getting a tune and CAI from a shop like Brenspeed or Bamachips is VERY MUCH worth it. I know it seems like a lot of money but believe me, you will see it's worth every penny if not more once you get it. I can't stress that enough and anyone here with a tune/CAI will say the same thing.
I was skeptical at first so it took me a while because of the price, but all I can say is WHAT THE **** WAS I THINKING WAITING SO LONG!? On a scale of 1 to 10 on how much it's worth getting a CAI/Tune I would say it's honestly a 20.
I REALLY love my Bama Race tune. The stock car is NOTHING like one with a tune like this.

My friends manual for his 2000 GT requires 87 too! Has the 4.6 ever required premium?

I had a pinging problem also but mainly with the 91 octane tune. I put it back to stock and only had it on hot days or gunnin it uphill. I put in 89 octane instead of 87 and it disappeared. Just put in 89 all the time for a stock car. Well since those days i supercharged my car and no ping whatsoever.

riptide im with you. i havent heard the ping in a long time. only time it did it was when i first got it tuned and loaded the 93 tune. there was still a lil less than a 1/4 tank of 89 and that is what caused the ping. was driving back from memphis and like an 30 min or so no more ping. haven't heard it since and i drive my baby like i stole her everyday, everywhere i go.

My GT has also always pinged, dealership couldn't do anything with it either. It pinged less on 93 - only on hotter days. I'm now back in the UK with the car and can run it on 95 and 97 RON gas, I have a CAI and 93 brenspeed tune and but still have to retard the timing a couple of degrees even when using 97!.
I have read there is supposed to be a 'correct' way of letting the ecm re-learn the a/f mixture after a tune or disconnection of the battery, I'm really sceptical about this, can anyone shed any light?, cheers,
