Default FI and fuel pumps

What is the big difference between the Ford GT supercar pumps and the GT500 fuel pump? I know the GT are dual pumps but is there not a way to make them work in our cars? The reason I ask is because I've seen the GT pumps advertised as an option for our cars when going FI and they are a lot cheaper than the GT 500 pump. So why would you got with more expensive pump if they both do the same thing? Are the flow rates or pressures that much different? Are the GT pumps that much of a pain to get to work properly?

I paid for the TWIN gt pumps spliced into the stock setup, few months later I spent the cash and picked up the gt500 setup. IMO working with the TWIN GT pumps I had a tube blow off, that tube then had a pin size hole I never noticed that began to get bigger over weeks... took a long time to figure that out. I junked those white cheapo hoses for gates hoses that were a PITA to work with.

The GT500 system was so easy to install. Plus I like the peace of mind of running 2 fpdm's instead of just one.

Overall I should have bought the gt500 kit from day one would have saved months of headaches.

How come there are two fpdms with the GT500 kit? Do they work together all of the time or is one of them there to boost amperage if more fuel is needed?

From our testing, there is not much difference in flow bewteen a single GT and single Mustang GT / GT500 pump. As seven said, the GT pumps are not a simple drop in deal. You have to cut and splice wiring and do custom hoses to install the GT pumps.

FYI, the GT500 pump kit has 2 pumps.....hence the 2 drivers. One runs ea. pump.

Bottom line, I would go right to the GT500 pump kit. It is the cleanest and easist fuel pump upgrade.

You are paying for the plug and play convenience of the gt500 pumps. The harness makes it a simple install. I haven't seen anyone making a harness like that for the ford gt pumps.

So wiring and hoses seem to be the main problems and differences between the two. What else besides these headaches?

Will be GT pumps mount into the mustang's "basket" (I'm not sure what the term is for the holder for the pump and sending unit)? Basically, what is required to put the GT pumps in the tank that will need to be bought additionally?

I read somewhere that there are check valves in the stock sending unit and hoses that can cause problems with the GT pumps. Is that true?

Do you need an additional fuel pump driver to run the Ford GT pumps or is the Mustang GT driver all that is required? I'm assuming by Seven's response that Mustang driver is all that is needed.

Thanks for the answers so far. I can see that the GT500 pumps are the better deal but I am still curious about the other things in the questions above.

You add the second fuel pump to the basket with a hose clamp.

ignore the wireing but this picture is the second pump attached. I can't find the finish product picture but I ran this pump in my car for several months.

Seven got some good pics there for you. In the first pic.....pump and sender.....the white and black valve is the pressure check valve. The pumps do nor have them built into them. Now, the GT pump has the valve built into it on the outlet port.....just like all the pre 99" Mustang pumps.

You also need to run hose that is submersible for fuel.

As Haney Motorsports mentioned the GT pumps are similar in flow to the GT pumps. The best part about the GT500 system though is the dedicated drivers per each pump. This helps in efficiency and will keep duty cycles lower.

There's really no better way to run dual pumps than a dual FPDM setup besides the newly released Zone 5 Performance MDM. Oh.. and we've put a third pump into the mix too!!

Have a great weekend. Jared
