If you get your 91 from a station that doesn't have individual lines for each octane at the pump is that going to introduce enough lower octane fuel to cause pinging in the system?

i had a brenspeed tune originally. in the summer it started pinging bad. i went and had it checked at a local performance shop and they said it was lean. i turned around and bought the SCT 3. it has preloaded tunes in it and had it checked with that. it did wonderful. no pinging and it ran better and faster than previously.

I have Brenspeed tunes and live in California. The 91 octane tune pinged between 4-5K RPM. Brenspeed revised it twice and it still pinged faintly. The last time I called they told me that the 91 octane tune had its timing revised down to almost the 87 octane tune. To test the pinging I would run 91 fuel with the 87 or 89 tune and would get no pinging. So, my 87 octane tune is my 91 octane tune now. Two weeds ago, I ordered a 91 torque tune from Bamachips and it DOES NOT ping. I'm going to order a performance or race tune from him next.

Heat is your worst enemy. Many people get ping in hot weather especially if your car was running for a while

Are you for sure its pinging??

With 4 degrees of timing taken out, you are close to a 87-89 tune really. I have never had problems with bama or brenspeed tunes.

I've had no issues with my BamaChips tune whatsoever.

I wish I had order the tune from BAMA, not liking this tune at all. I am pretty much running 91 like u did, with 4 degrees retarded timing which puts me around a 87 tune.

yeah i know, but the tune would ping even in cooler weather, but the ping was stronger and more easily identifiable when conditions where right, like uphill, heat, etc. Overall, not happy with this tune, I think im gonna give it a shot with bama maybe.

One silly question, BAMA and Brenspeed are totally different tuning companies right??

I highly doubt it, maybe you get a small amount of lower octane gas, but mixed with a full tank of 91, the lower octane concentration should be minute compared to the concentration of 91. But you could possibly get "bad gas" that why you should stick to a few good gas stations around your area.
