Default Pypes Mid-Muffler system for '08 GT

I am getting ready to start upgrading my new 08 GT...where better to start than the exhaust!?!

I have spent hours listening to youtube and streetfire soundclips (dont tell my boss) and I really like the Pypes mid-muffler system the best. The M80 mufflers seem to have a great tone for our cars and you cant beat the price, but I have a few questions I would like answered before I order...

1. Do these produce any drone? I have a 70 mile commute that is 90% highway. Drone = BAD. This is one of my major deciding factors with a new setup.
2. Have the quality issues been worked out yet? I would think that after a few years of production, they would figure it out. I will be having these installed by a exhaust specialist.
3. A few sites say that 2007.5 and up cars need a additional install kit. WTF??? I was under the assumption that the s197 GT's all had the same exhaust layout. Can someone either confirm or deny this requirement?
4. HOW DO THEY SOUND? lol...I know its impossible to really convey it over the internet, but for those of you that have heard them in person, or have it on their own cars, are you happy? My plan is to get them installed with the FRPP X, and then eventually get L/T's and a catted crossover setup.

Thanks a ton,
Kenny

Several threads going on this week with the Pypes MM! ;-) Can't say if the fitment issues have been taken care of but if you are having a shop install the kit just tell them to pay attention to the passenger side as it tends to hang lower. Most have had to bend the mount for it to fit but I just had the shop but the mount and weld it back into place.

Overall sound is great. I just had the Kooks LT w/cat H installed last week and it's friggin loud. I have a quick video if you want to see it.

YES! I'm interested in hearing those headers and mid pipe. Of course my muffs are different...

Do you have videos of before and after headers?

It's very short but I'm working on some others as well. Unfortunately I don't have any before video but there are some on YouTube without headers that you could check out. The only thing I don't care for and I'm trying to find a fix is that under heavy load it trumpets pretty good. Can't really hear that in the video but while driving you can. I'm thinking it's just the amount of air I'm pushing with the Paxton.

If you shop around on the classifieds in various mustang forums, you will find someone selling the pypes m/m. As other people have posted, the biggest issue is fitment. You might want to reconsider your choice. On another forum someone had the pypes m/m and replaced them with bassani race exhaust. He said the pypes sounded cheap compared to the pypes.

WTF?...lol

I have noticed that the Pypes kit did sound cheap/funky at times. Thats been my whole beef with them from day one. Very unreliable tone, and a lot of quality control issues. That makes me rethink the whole GTA thing again.

So many choices, so little money...

I lov my sound, however mine still rattles. I'm going take it back to the shop and maybe look into some boomtubes.

LOL WTH r u talking about??? How does an exhaust setup sound cheap\ Funky "at times". Seriously dude, it's a muffler, not a 4 piece band having an off day... Other than the packing material being slightly less effective at muffling when cold ( A trait held by all glass pack style mufflers) and a louder sound after the break in period, they do not change in tone or sound at all..

As for the sound.. I have the MM system and I love it... It is a great tone for the car, and sounds similar to the magnapack system... only a bit louder, and with less drone..

Heres the deal.. All straight through mufflers sound (somewhat) similar. They are packed with fiberglass or a similar material , that quiets down the exhaust while not restricting much flow. The fiberglass or similar material is effective at quieting the higher frequency sounds much better than the lower frequences, and they don't change the exhausts natural tone or impart one of their own... so what you get is a deep, hum type sound , which is basically the sound coming straight from the engine\cats... Only toned down in the higher frequencys. Kind of like talking with your hand right over your mouth... The amount of higher frequency that it tones down depends on the size of the mufflers, and the packing material used. One thing in common with "packed" mufflers, is they are never raspy, and the tone from a low rpm to a high rpm doesn't undergo as much change as on a "chambered muffler"

A chambered muffler is a muffler which uses obstructions and changes in flow path to cancel out certain frequences and impart its own... The famous flowmaster sound is an example of this... Macs are another chambered muffler that is popular on the s197... Chambered mufflers are raspier than packed ones, and many under go a significant change in tone when the rpms are climbing... It is also important to note that unlike packed mufflers, chambered mufflers can sound quite different from brand to brand and type to type...

On the s197 drone is a serious concern. WIthout getting in depth into acoustics the bottom line is that the placement of the mufflers can have a serious effect on how the frequencies emitted resonate inside the cabin of a car. Unlike previous mustangs, the s197 has the mufflers located close to the tailpipe section of the car. On quieter mufflers such as the stock or frpp gta's drone is a non issue. But throw a set of macs, flows, or loud straight through mufflers (stingers) and you got yourself DRONE. THis is unbearable for many people, especially when its a daily driver...

THE only muffler with the exception of corsas (WHich arent all that loud ) that not only turns the volume up a lot, while not significantly droning is the Mid muffler system... The placement of the mufflers keeps drone significantly down compared to other systems to the point where it is almost a non issue.

THe mid muffler system aside from the fitment issues offers a great tone comparable to the much more expensive magna pack and stingers... While not droning very much at all...

The mid muffler system is one of very few that kicks the volume up enough that it sounds great with the stock mid pipe as well.. And for those looking for more volume, the mid muffler pairs up great with an OR H... And even better with high flows and an X... Just google "litoven's" videos on youtube (Search "mid muffler x longtube") and you will find it... It is one of the sickest most exotic sounding stangs you will ever hear in your life...

All in all with a stock midpipe the two best sounding exhausts in my opinion are the mid muffler and the macs... With the stingers a very close second...

For the price.. GO with the Mid muffler, since your getting a professional install anyway, they should work out the kinks... With the $3-400 you saved, use it for another mod, and all will be one happy camper..

Just my 2 cents, hope it all works out...

EDIT: NOTE: Sorry about all the mistakes and poor grammar, Its the first day back at college and we just killed a few pitchers each...
