The gear install is pricey...about $250-300.

You can do the x pipe yourself, very easy. If not your looking about 1 hr of labor maybe 2 if the shop feels like it $80-$100.

You would be fine, this is a very simple install...start on Friday night to make sure you are done by monday. This would take me about 1 hr tops, you mabye 3 with a learning curve.

Do you have any tools? If not go by a floor jack and a wrench set....you will be able to use this for changing your own oil...which in my case save me $50 + per change.

Have you ever jacked up a car before? There is a safety issue here...getting under a car can be dangerous without properly securing the car...Hell I almost killed myself with a scissor style jack when I was 16 or so!

The midpipe is like 6 bolts I agree start Friday evening early Sat morning it'll be easy. In addition to the above specified you'll need a torque wrench for proper torque and jack stands to secure the car. I believe the bolts are metric on the exhaust. I think my header to midpipe bolts are 15mm but cant remember. You'll have studs for the stock exhaust manifold to midpipe setup so you shouldnt have to remove the battery box(we did when we installed my headers). I suggest a haynes shop manual while it is not the actual ford shop manuals it has a lot of good info and pics that can reference if you get into a bind and is fairly inexpensive.

I believe its the offroad midpipes that cause the raspy sound but if it's me I would do the H.
