Default Exhaust got LOUDER?

Hey everyone, On saturday I installed a Steeda CAI and predator tune in my 05 convert and I swear the exhaust note is louder. I know I'm not going crazy. My brother-in law who helped me with the install states that back in the muscle car day, when they remove or flipped the air cleaner housing over they got the same result. I'm pretty intelligent, but I can't figure this out. Has anyone else noticed this? Does anyone have a logical explanation? Thanks!

humm...I'm only guessing here (seriously, not being a wise ***) but CAI = better airflow = 15-20 more HP = more exhaust pressure = different exhaust sound??

I'm with sowaxeman. More airflow, louder exhaust. Plus you are hearing the intake noise now that you are not used to.

Less sound restriction = more intake snarl. Half the sound you hear while you're in the car is coming from your intake, same noise, just from the other end of the engine.

CAI is an acronym for Cold Air Induction kit

Ah yes, memories! I remember doing that very thing on my '68 GTO (400) and '72 Grand Prix (455). But the exhaust didn't get louder, it just made it a while lot easier to hear those big 4 barrel carbs sucking air. The air cleaner snorkels faced forward, so with the lid down you couldn't hear the carb. Flipping the lid exposed the air cleaner element all the way around and made it easier to hear. Going to an open element air filter did the same thing.
