Fuel Shutdown due to faulty switch

Fuel Shutdown due to faulty switch
So... there I was filling my tank at the station. I had been driving the car for several hours prior and once filled I cranke dit up again. At first (Approx 30 seconds) things seemed normal. Then the car starting missing real bad, then stalled. I got it started twice more but each time it was missing so hard that it would stall. Third try was nothing, it cranked fine but seemed to be getting no fuel at all.
I ended up having it towed to the dealership Sunday evening and dropped it off at the service department. They called me Monday morning and I described what had happened and told them that I suspected that there was no fuel going to the engine.
They called me back 2 hours later to say that it was no working fine and they had found and corrected the problem. It seems there is this "Inertia" switch that had kicked in for some reason. It is there, according to the dealer, to shut of fuel flow in the case of a rear end collision. Somehow for some reason it had flipped itself on. They replaced it and all is well again.
Anyone else have this problem before? I had a guy stop at the station while I was waiting on a tow. He said that his had done the same thing and he could not remember what the dealer told him was the culprit. He thought is was something to do with the onboard module.

RE: Fuel Shutdown due to faulty switch
I believe there is a reset switch for that in the drivers compartment, along the lower left side kick panel. I don't have my manual with me, but the dealer told me about it when I bought mine. He said the car is desgined to shut the fuel off in an accident, and if the car is still driveable, I could hit the reset switch and be on my way.

YES... the information about the Fuel Pump Shutoff Switch can be found in your Mustang Manual:
Page 4 = On the bottom
Page 165 = On the bottom.
Page 166 = Main body with drawings.
It states the switch can be set off from vibration of parking.

RE: Fuel Shutdown due to faulty switch
I greatly appreciate the replies. I swear I went all through the manual and the only thing I could find on fuel was a reference to the filter. I had thought that maybe since it was the first time I had run the gas down to empty that possibly with the new tank it stirred up some particles that had clogged the filter. Of course, there is only a reference to change the filter and no idea on the location of said filter. But I will look again when I get home and check out the info. Thanks again!
