Steeda Heavy Duty Belt Tensioner - 05-09
#14
With the Whipple you can get the 90 mm and the Thumper tensioner is billet aluminum! The Steeda one has been bent before and JDM now sells them as they feel the Thumper tensioner is the best on the market! The franken tensioner from Adam at STMotorsports is a great piece but not as pretty as the Thumper! You can thump on that tensioner all day and night and it will never be the cause of a thrown belt.....

I do not see it as a hack job...it is not the prettiest thing on the planet. here is where my issue is at is you can barely see the factory tensioner(saleen blower, alt reversed) on my so why not just paint it with some rattle can and put it in. as for the engineering design i do believe it will do what it needs to do. it has a weld all the way around. that in essence makes it stronger. I am actually considering this for over a $200 savings. isnt the Thrumper one almost $400. Is an extra 250ish worth the look when both are probably just as strong?

+1 Never heard of a broken thumprr. I am having 0 belt problems now, but I bought one anyway to make sure I never will.
If you have a whipple you will need it with a 90mm pulley. I paid about $400 shipped for mine.
Considering belts go for like $100 and a new stock tensioner is about $100, I figure going with the thumprr I will break even in the end on parts that didnt break and I get none of the hassle of fixing it.
That is just me though.
And as far as I know every other upgraded tensioner has been broken before with the exception of the thumprr. Just food for thought.
Buy quality once, and cheap 100 times.

Why do I need the 90mm pully?
