Default Check gas cap light?

Hope this is the correct forum for this question.

Just purchased a 47K mile 06 GT. I was playing with the display computer, and shouldn't have been since the dealer where I bought it is getting an Owners Manual for me since the car didn't have one with it. Anyway, every time I start it the "Check Gas Cap" light comes on, I hit reset and it goes away. The gas cap is tight, past a couple clicks, and the gasket seems to be ok. Is there something that can be done with the on-board computer to make this go away?

Thanks for the help.

The dealer will take care of it. Mine was doing that. Took it in and there was nothing wrong. They "cleared the code" and it hasn't come back since.

OK, here is an ONLINE OWNERS MANUAL for ya.
Its the 07 manual but they are basically the same.
The DTC thats been set is the clue as to whats going on here.
I would suspect the EVAP vent solenoid or some sort of the
EVAP system gone bad. With 47K you can expect this problem.
Return to the dealer where purchased asap and complain.
The squeeky wheel gets the grease.
And if ya want to learn all about it and fix her yourself,
here is the ONLINE FORD S197 WORKSHOP MANUAL with all
the DTCs explained and flow charts to get her fixed.
Just like the Ford Techs learn from and use everyday.
(I keep mine in the waste disposal area for reading while waiting).
I learn another 10 minutes of info every and spew it out here on the Forum.

I had the same thing happen to me and did the re-set making sure that the cap was tight. In order to make it go away perminantly (unless it actually occurs again) you have to clear the code with a scan tool

157db, thanks for the online owners manual. I got a call from the salesman that he had located the owners manual, second key and FOB for it. Now all we need to find is the wheel lug lock tool for the locks and get the gas cap caution light cleared. That will be done Tuesday.
Thanks also to Riptide and mxg30 for your responses.
