Default Bran new 'Stang owner!

Hey guys. About a week and a half ago I got an '08 Mustang GT with a manual transmission. LOVE it so far. Best car I've ever owned however I do have one question.

Yesterday I was going around 45 mph (maybe a shade slower) and accidentally shifted it into first gear. It says in the instruction manual that shifting into first at over 15 mph may damage the transmission. Not to mention it red lined the engine a bit. Is this bad? Gawd I hope I didn't just screw up my bran new 'Stang.

yes that can be very bad on the transmission, but unless it started making a weird noise or giving you problems im sure its fine. Not to mention its covered under warranty even if you did mess it up

It's hard on it. And if you were to do that going about 50-60 and get it all the way in gear severe damage could result to the transmission and/or engine. Kinda like if someone were to screw up power shifting at the track and go from 3rd back into 2nd they might destroy the car.

One other nice thing about an auto. Pretty tough to do this.

BTW I doubt going into 1st while at 15mph will do anything. That's well within the safe area.

That is pretty bad but you should be ok if you do not hear of feel anything out of the ordinary. Sounds similar to what I did except mine was worse. I was WOT in third on the freeway, went to hit fourth and threw that **** into reverse...I was pissed..This happened about two years ago. Everything is fine execpt I can't shift into reverse while rolling backwards now. I have to be stopped to shift into reverse, probably how most of you do it anyways.

and if u did.. thats bad. my friends dad blew his gt500's tranny on the track cuz he let his buddy drive it and he shifted into 2nd instead of 4th.. somehow it was taken care of under warranty though

+1, you had to have at least two hands ur shifter to get it into 1st... Also you have a rev limiter, however, that might not be enough if you did get it into 1st.

How in the world did you get it into reverse while moving forward in 3rd at WOT? I thought that the tranny wouldn't "let you" put it into reverse while you're moving forward.

The rev limiter won't help when you drop down a gear and blow things up. You are physically forcing the engine to run harder - there's no way the limiter can stop it in that situation AFAIK.
