The tolerances on these mod motors are so tight, there's no way anything could be sloppy or good bye motor real quick.

What that link is referring to is how the VCT can change the timing by a large amount to improve the torque curve under all rpms and improve efficiency there too. All modern engines use this now.

Phaser limiters are just not needed for these cams and the issue the OP has is just one of those weird things that happens sometimes unfortunately.

i'm not worried about being able to do the install....it's just the problems that crop up afterwards....like the codes the op is getting, or cam phaser issues (although i don't think there are any know issues with phasers with hot rod cams, that we know of yet)

hopefully he can figure out what's going on so we can all learn something

hey rojizo, i respect your decision
to let the dust settle a bit, before committing
to new cams.....what's the rush? FRPP
will be making these new cams for a
long long time......

when you do decide to do cams, it's going
to be a tough choice, between hot rods and
thumpers.....

I have had no problems with my cams.

seems like there must be something mechanically wrong with the cam phasers to get those codes. maybe even a blocked oil passage?

Agreed, unfortunately just a problem I ran into after the cams were installed. Further research says that maybe one of the tines on the cam phasers were bent (a possbility) and or the sensors went bad. I need a timing chain wedge to do the swap. None of my buddies has one so it looks like I'll have to buy one Couldnt find a place that rents 'em.

I have the same issue with the SPR Stage 1 CompCams. After installing the correct springs (comp sent me the wrong ones) the engine came to life and is a real tire shreader, working on the dyno last saturday and the I/C pump quit working...replaced it with a Bosch pump from an 04 Cobra and have to reschedule the dyno....so frustrating but well worth the work I guess
