Brent has very good custom tunes that come with his CAI.

Your car will have a little more rumble to it from the mufflers but no new sounds under the hood.

the jlt has the best gains by a couple rwhp but the c&l seems to be a lot of the peoples favorites because of the quality and it was the 2nd in peformance gains.

It isnt uncommon to get anywhere from 25-30hp from these packages

does anyone know which C&L is better (numbers-wise)? the Racer or the Street?

i forget the difference between the two besides the aluminum inlet on the street and the plastic inlet on the racer.

the racer has a bigger intake diameter than the street, i think. racer runs @ ~1070 cfm and street runs @ ~1003 cfm

The Racer is no help over the Street unless you're aspirated or heavily modded.

Yes on the difference between in flow Race and Street. Bama makes a hybrid kit, takes the inlet of the street intake but uses the plastic elbow from the racer kit to keep the intake temp down a little.

I wouldn't do a kit without a tune on these cars as you run the risk of leaning out at WOT or high RPM.

VMP is where I bought mine. CAI/tune combo is a good mod for the stang. The factory tune is just plain awful. The car just doesn't "feel" right. Also, what's nice about having a tuner (I have the Xcal3) is if you get an 89, 91 and a perf tune, should fuel prices go crazy again you can quickly throw in the 89 tune and save 15 cents or more per gallon.

CAI and tune, I only have 2 words for you

DO IT

I bought a no tune S&B Filters CAI - great price, great sound, they do recommend a tune but it doesn't require one however they say once tuned for it the performance gains will be pretty noticeable.

At low rpm it really rumbles as the car picks up speed, the only thing I don't like about it is I feel like I've lost a fair amount of low end power in second so I'm itching to get my tuner....

The tuners come in a few versions, chip / computer / etc... if you go with the computers its the simplest, just plug it in, let it store your stock ECU tune, then apply your custom one.... bamachips does some sweet tune / CAI packages so check him out!!

the tuner hooks up to the obd2, and then loads the tune into the computer. your going to need your own because the tuner locks into to VIN of your stang and only have a limited number of unlocks. plus youll want your own for future mods that you throw on the stang

Had the same CAI until recently. I never ran it without a tune but it's certainly a decent unit. Like everyone says though, all the power gain comes with the tune.

Yeah its only rated at 374 CFM which is nothing compared to the C&L ones but I'm on a budget and I'm happy with it so for the short term future it will do nicely
