Hehe, I bet the whipple might have a little to do with that as well.

I read on another board someone actually gaining MPG with the hot rods. Maybe he just got a really good tune.

I do agree cams are not a way to save fuel since they let you burn more of it. But I'd think FI is worse about that. Especially since the hot rods are a mild cam to begin with.

I'll most likely stick to my bama tune with cams at first but I'll probably get a dyno tune at some point.

i think with the whipple and the frpp tune, i
could easily get into the 24's....

we definitely have to make sacrifices, to put
in these cams.....we can't expect to have the
same perfect idle and 25+ mileage as before.....

I wish I could get 25+. I am stock except for a catted x-pipe & GTA mufflers. I do about 50/50 highway & city and average 19mpg. Funny thing is it doesn't matter how I drive it. I always average 19mpg.

MPG was the last thing I was thinking when I got my mustang. With these dyno/bama/brenspeed tunes are you all having to bump up into the 91/92 octane bracket to have the car running better, or with cams can it be ran on 87? (this has nothing to do with mpg- just wondering)

Special tools for installing cams- anybody want to rent them and recoup a portion of the money they spent on them? send me a pm

Even if I'm getting a CAI and cams and taking it to dynoshop to get it tuned for peak performance- should I get a tuner? It is a added expense, and if I wouldn;t need one then that is money in the bank.

idle issues? I would assume with these cams and the sound they had made, that idle would have been affected? should it not be? maybe I missed something...

Didn't buy it for MPG, but that doesn't mean I want to degrade what MPG it does have either. I'm interested in mods that improve hp by improving the efficiency of the engine (doesn't hurt mpg) - CAI & headers. Maybe pulleys.

I'd been thinking a cam fell into the efficiency category. I'm surprised to learn that might not be the case.

The reason I was surprised at the loss of mpg is because I'd heard from another guy that had the FRPP cams gained +2mpg!!

I'm not complaining... 21mpg on the highway is not too bad for a 320whp car, especially one with a 5-speed and 4.10 gears. I'm just thinking it will be better after the dyno tune. When I started my car in the garage it almost gagged me it smelled so rich. I hope they tune it to run better than that!

And as for idle, I don't mind the rough idle but when it dies every time I depress the clutch thats just not acceptable, at least for me. If they can't get it running well enough to drive in heavy traffic like I have to drive in every day then the extra 20hp does me no good and the old cams will have to go back in. I may deal with it for awhile and find some tamer cams.
