Default FRPP Cam Crew Meeting

Here we will list tuners, who demonstrated
their skills and knowledge of s197's, by
creating useable tunes for our Hot Rod cam
crew members.

if you would like your tuner to be listed, please
post the contact information

*MY HOT ROD CAMS AND FORD TOOLS ARE NOT FOR SALE*
thanks for all the offers, but i'll be putting the cams back in
sometime down the road.....

-------------------------------------------
i'm sorry to announce that i will be turning
in my crew member badge, at least for the
short term.

if my guru tuner had been able to do better
with the low rpms area of the tune, i would
have kept the cams.

i was the first to install these cams on a FI
car (as far as i know) and it looks like
i'll be the first to take them out of a FI car.

i like everything about the cams, except for the
crappy idling characteristics. if you put in the
clutch, put the car in nuetral, while coasting
down a hill, the rpms don't stabilize (they jump
around) until you're almost stopped.

i am willing to put these back in at some point in the
future, when someone figures out how to
improve the tuning.

i'll be following the sticky, so i think the r&r should
go pretty smooth.

Yikes!

I wonder if these kind of issues exist for the Thumpr?

I also am curious if there's idle issues with an auto.

And too, Ford offers a 3v 4.6L crate engine with these cams so surely it's possible. Murillo in San Antonio seemed to have tuned them well.

I want cams but the recent weeks has made me nervous.

What are the rpm's that it bounces around between? Does is stall out? I can put mine in neutral and coast and the rpm's stay between 850-1000. It has never stalled out either.

ham, find a different tuner. theres specifically 2 tables in the sct tuning functions that deal with this problem, most tuners arent aware of it yet. Ive personally seen these cams tuned on an fi car with no bad idle characteristics. Im not sure where you are located but if your anywhere near texas i can give you locations and numbers.

I hear ya. I'd like FRPP cams too, but I'm not about to jump into it with such widespread failure surrounding their installation and tuning.

Would be nice if Ford had some expert tech support on this instead of leaving us all out to dry.

I'm 100% happy with them and the Bama tune. I'd say if you don't like a rough idleing car don't get them though because the car does shake a good bit at idle.

Wait! Don't junk them call Tony at hp-performance and see if he can help. He is a fantastic tunner, and has experience with the cams and FI.

You know what's interesting. Mike Murillo had Rubrignitz swap his SCT for the diablosport because of some "extra stuff" he could access on there. This I suspect along with what you said make me think this extra stuff has to do with the functions for idle for things like cams.

I'm going to email Doug at Bama to see if he knows about these extra tables. I'd assume he does. Doug is THE MAN after all.

So far Murillo Motorsports is on the top of my list for tuning FRPP Hot Rods. I may use a bama tune to just get me by until I can get Murillo to tune me. A lot of people use bama tunes just fine (even though they're not perfect due to their email nature).

If there's other shops (like in houston) that can tune these perfectly I'd like to know. I'm guessing you have psi in mind for this. What about Fast Lane Inc? I think their on the NW side of Houston which is close to where my uncle is who will be installing my headers and maybe my cams too.

Hammeron, what was the idle like with the Brenspeed tune? I thought you said it worked ok? If so, just go back to their tune and use that until you can get a better tuner.

Man, I was listening to your youtube videos last night over and over. Completely SICK sound.

Did you have any issues with your first bama tune for these? Or was the tune he sent you good? Others had to get an updated tune from bama to get things right.
