i am going to do the one piece at the same time.....i
was thinking the same thing as you about vibration
troubleshooting, but i never want to see that stock
shaft again!
i'm also doing a hurst shifter, so much room to work
up in there now.....
i got the transmission out using your special procedure,
so over the next couple of weeks, i'll be in the
install mode......

moose, if by upper you mean the forward cross
member bolts, no....there's only about an inch
or inch and a half of bolt length below the k-member.
i had to drop the k-member down below the length
of those bolts to get it low enough. i had placed
threaded rods through the factory alignment holes
though, in order to help keep things in alignment.
i did loosen the rear k-member bolts about
an inch or so, i think that is pretty much
mandatory. i sure hope they go back in, after
i mount up the tranny....we'll see.....
sactown, yes for sure i'll let you know how i
like it after the first test drive
one, thanks for the well wishes.....i'm always
nervous about backing the car down the driveway
for the first time, after projects like this.....

It is a straight install deal. I just finished another install for a customer and took some pics for him (wanted to see the shiney new parts )
One good helpful tip when you are bolting down the pressure plate...... Even with the align tool in place, the weight of the two discs can make them slide down/out of align. I usually have to hold the two discs with my fingers, sliding the tool in and out to find the sweet spot ( wow, that made my mind wonder ). At this point, start tightening down the plate in a circular pattern. You won't need to tighten to much for it to finally hold right.
Another thing I recommend is an aftermarket flywheel. (more pics to show customer why worth it). By using the stock flywheel, you lose about 50% of contact/surfarce area on the bottom disc to flywheel.
Take your time and have fun with it!! It may be hard to get the trans all the way back in.......it seems that the two dowels are an interference fit

I'm talking about the two upper transmission mounting bolts, the ones that hold it to the block. I'm pretty sure the two top bolts are longer than all the others, but wanted some confirmation.

casey, you are the man! thanks, your pictures
answered one of my other questions, which was,
"which clutch disk goes closest to the flywheel?"
your pics indicate that the one labeled "bottom"
is the answer.
that sure is one good looking setup.
moose, funny thing is i had those two
upper transmission bolts bagged by themselves
for a while......then after i removed the remaining
bolts, i threw them in the same bag...
i remember now you mentioning that maybe those
were a different length, but i forgot about it
until you mentioned again....
i'll look in the bag tonight, to see if all the
bolts are the same size or not.....
