cheap forge build...Is this possible or just dumb?

we all know the weakest link is the rods and such. Why cant we just get the car in the air drop the pan and carefully remove the crankshaft keeping all the bearings and all in the same place they cam out of. Once out pull down the pistons enough to remove the rods only and replace with forged rods. Once all swapped then put it all back together. I know we all want a forged crank and pistons but i wonder if this is possible what would it move the HP rating to on the block. At 450 RWHP all agree over this is no mans land. well if you swap out the rods does it move up to like 600 RWHP. I could see a whole lotta guys wanting to stay under this and be happy to remain out of the $10,000 bill for forged block and fancy dancy heads.
Please do not waist the writing time of telling me to just pay the money for the full blown deal. I am wanting to stay focused on the question at hand if it is even doable or just beyond dumb.
Thanks for any constructive info with my questions.

There are other things as stated, having the rotating assy. re-balanced, remove trans, remove front timing chain cover, etc.

hotairgypsy, i can appreciate what you
are trying to do... i would rather you get
your engine on an engine stand and then
replace whatever parts you'd like to
replace.
good luck with the project, keep us
informed

oh i have not started a thing....i am just blown away on the cost of forged setup so looking for options but I would say haneymotorsports.com just nailed down the answer...i have a spare engine so i could do all i need to while driving the car..did that to reduce my downtime.

i hear you on the costs gypsy.....
i'd like to install a forged rotating
assembly in the comfort of my own
garage......if my clutch project turns
out ok, i just may attempt it sometime
in the next couple of years....

Best bet is like said above buy a forged shortblock. Since you have a spare then what are you waiting for!! Good luck. Personally I am saving all of next year while I am on deployment and buying myself a nice little shortblock!!

haha, well I can't say I "cheaped" out on anything on the rest of my car, but we'll see, it's a tough decision. Maybe I'll just throw the cams in there, up the boost and wait to blow the stock block, so i have no choice hahahah
