Its funny how others can give what any motor will handle not knowing how it was made or the quality it was made to. Not all things were created equally and it only takes one link in the "chain" (the weakest one) that can cause the motor to blow (even on the dyno). Yes everything mentioned above will help prevent throwing a rod and yes an great tune will help prevent from throwing a rod but many have come to the conclusion (this will vary and many still debate it) that 450 RWHP is what the stock motor has been known to handle. Yes I can give proof that others have blown with less and others have blown with much more (550 RWHP- which blew after 25+ passes and made high 10's in the 1/4 mile with 20's and street radials!) but regardless of the HP level many need to realize that if you go with FI your stock motor is living on borrowed time and the motor can and will have decreased life expectancy.....it more a matter of when really....JMO

Where is that belt drive system for the whipples Steeda was bragging about?
I talked with Steeda the yesterday and they wont officially release until early next year as the first batch though done is not shipping until Steeda new plant which will manufacture them is totally online....so now the wait...

I am confused how do you tell a Gen I from a Gen II. I have a Whipple with a 3.25? pulley on it.

great question, luckily the answer is
fairly straightforward....

tell us what your max boost psi is at Wide
Open Throttle and we'll be able to tell you
if you are gen 1 or 2.

my rough calculations show if you are
around 11, gen 1....around 12, gen 2

Is the 3.25" pulley stock? If so, it's the newest version of the Gen II.

Sounds like you have an answer but they stopped making the gen1's I believe over a yr ago. I am sure a few might be left out there but they would only work depending on the year of the car as the 07-08 seems to differ from the 05-06 GT's...... I have an 06 and then not 3 months after in late 07 early 08 they announced a more efficient S/C.

Anyone else hear retail on these kits is now almost $7000? I think it is about $6950. I'm glad I bought mine when I did.

As far as the car blowing up...I really fail to see how anyone can set ANY exact hp figure at what point ANY particular motor can go ka-boom. If I lean out my A/F ratio at 250hp and stomp on it, I bet I can break something. HP doesn't kill motors.

I'm not going to say anything else on this subject, because I don't wanna jinx my car.

i was told the reason the whipple jumped prices for the 08-09 h/o systems was u get 50 more ponies than the previous yrs running the same boost!

Not entirely accurate. The kit is the same as far as tune and compressor. What changed is the pulley. In the past six months (not sure when the exact change came) they have been shipping the Gen II cimpressor with a 3.250" pulley instead of the 3.500" pulley. That change equalled the 50 extra horsepower. The pulley itself only costs $129, and if you count the fact that they are just replacing one with the other, it shouldn't change at all in price. Maybe the price had more to do with sales numbers or the economy? I am not sure and I don't want to start guessing. I am sure Whipple had a good reason.

congrats on a very strong torque curve, the motor should be right about at its reasonable limits. Pulled almost 200 pulls in one day @ SEMA as a demo car on the dyno with my set up, still holding fine(if you were there I'm sure you saw it). I've got a built motor on waiting to go in, so I'm eager to find the breaking point, should be right about 530whp, but I'll know shortly. There are a lot of variables though, efficiency, tune, CFM flow, ect. The motor WILL break eventually, but of course the more stress the more wear and the shorter the life span. Each is unique however, other peoples experiences are relevant but not absolute.
