Default How Do You Like the Pirelli's?

As I wait for receipt of my ordered 06 GT, I'm wondering what you guys and gals think about the OEM Pirelli tires that many of the GT's came with.

Are they fairly quiet and comfortable?

Are you getting decent wear/mileage out of them?

I know they aren't a track tire, but from what I can gather on Tirerack.com, they appear to be a top choice so far as traction, handling, hydroplaning, etc. in a higher performance all season tire. See http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...jsp?type=UHPAS

Any input appreciated.

John

Q. Are they fairly quiet and comfortable?

A. Yes, IMO... but they get noisy if you mash the loudpedal from a standing start.

Q. Are you getting decent wear/mileage out of them?

A. Mine only lasted 1,400 miles.

I haven't had any problems with mine, but then I have only 1700 miles on my car. And don, you neglected to tell him they only last that long because you burned them off before you put on new rims and tires.

LOL... nah, they're still in great shape.

But, if I don't sell them, then I may stick them back on after the supercharger is installed, and sacrifice them to the God of Burnouts! woohoo.

Tires went to ebay a week after I got the car. Didn't care for the footprint.

I was surprised that I was hydroplaning with less than 2000 miles on them. They have been driven aggressively, but there is still a lot of tread. All in all a good tire for the average Joe, not great for the track, but still fun.

I would agree with that statement. In fact, the Pirelli's probably corner a tad bit better than the Nitto 450 255/50s & 275/50s I have now. But, that's OK with me. I didn't buy the Nitto's for cornering... I wanted a wider tire, with more sidewall flex for better straightline acceleration. If someone is into running the twisties a lot, the tires I have probably aren't the best choice. You want something a little stiffer, with less sidewall flex.

I was impressed that the tires handled as well as they do. I know Pirelli is a good motorcycle tire and I'm very satisfied with them on the GT. That doesn't negate the fact that I'm changing them as soon as the newly ordered wheels come in.

I hate them. They are alright road tires, but they are awful at the track. They get no traction.
