Default just a heads up on the gt500 / 6.8 V10 throttle body

got mine today, they are 60mm as opposed to some of the aftermarket ones that are 62 and 65mm. i believe stock is 55mm.

little dirty, but a half can of carb cleaner and a rag fixed 'er right up.

waiting on my spacer plate to come (25 bucks from ebay) so i can install it - but i think i'll go see if it will mount up since its a little smaller than the aftermarket ones.

ok, here are my preliminary findings.....

the plugs/sensors look the same.

bolt spacing height is the same but the V10 T.B. is a little wider. the holes can either be drilled out slightly larger, or slotted slightly to make that fit - no big deal.

the shape of the rubber gasket is different, so a spacer plate is definitely required or it would not seal. i picked up a new generic billet spacer on ebay for 25.00 shipped.

the housing is larger where the intake tube connects. this looks like my biggest problem right now. i either need to find a piece of silicone hose that is bigger on one end and smaller on the other, or if i can find i piece that is large enough for the T.B. it looks like it would slip over the silicone hose that is already on the CAI.

nothing too scary, just a little bit of smarts to get it on. i actually like little projects like this, simply bolting on parts is just too damn easy

I have an opportunity to pick up a GT500 TB as well, curious if it would even be worth it.

well if you wanna help the cause, try to find a 4.5" to 5.5" silicone adapter, or a piece of 5" silicone hose.

C&L says their GT500 kits have a 5.5" hose, another site that sold GT500 T.B.'s says you need a piece of hose that will stretch to 5.0"..... im gonna have to pull this piece of tubing off my intake to get a definite answer on what its size is.

well i can tell you this one is 60mm, but it came from a 6.8 V10 not a 5.4 GT500 although I had read ford used the V10 T.B. on the 500's

anyone know the underhood temps of our cars? it looks like i can use a fernco to connect the new t.b. to the cai tube, they say they can handle 140 deg F but not sustained constantly at those temps. obviously the plastic intake works as a heat shield but what are the temps under the hood under normal driving conditions?

ok, looks like a fernco model 1059-44 will work. they are 4.5" to 5", but all the local plumbing supply places didn't carry that model because it's an oddball size. i ended up at lowes, where i picked up a 4" to 4" coupler, its a "heavy duty" one which actually has thinner more flexible rubber and a metal sleeve around it. take the rubber insert out and with a little manhandling it fits onto the 5" T.B. opening. I think if I boiled the rubber for a little bit it would slide on easier, and when it cooled it would have a nice formed fit.

so far total cost:

throttle body: used 6.8 V10 60mm T.B. 100.00 shipped from car-part.com
spacer: billet aluminum 62mm spacer 25.00 shipped from ebay
tubing adapter: 4"x4" rubber coupler 9.00 from lowes

that should be it, other than slotting the T.B. bolt holes so that it will bolt onto the intake.

Damn, I thought the GT500 TB was 65mm, not 60mm.

I want to see pictures of the setup once it's done.
