Default Need your advice... re: Saleen Supercharger

I recently (Feb 10th) put a "non-refundable" deposit down ($1000) for a Saleen SuperShaker to be installed at Brenspeed in June. With the recent news of Saleen's buyout and cessation of operations, I am left at a loss for what to do. Apparently, the purchasing company, MJ Acquisitions, will provide a 1 year, 12000-mile warranty on "Saleen parts." The whole idea for me getting the SuperShaker now and having Brenspeed install it was to be able to retain my 3-year/36000-mile warranty. I feel like I can't go through with this purchase now with things as uncertain as they are. I only have 6000 miles on my Stang, and I don't want to buy a supercharger now if it's going to give a stealership any reason to deny me a warranty claim.

I could not get a hold of Brenspeed today as I've been in a comatose state for most of the day. Am I totally screwed out of my deposit? Brenspeed said my deposit was non-refundable because they have to buy the unit and put it on hold for me. Could they really have bought the unit already? Has anyone ever been in a situation like this? If so, what happened?

I don't think it's unreasonable for me to ask for my deposit back since things have so dramatically changed on Saleen's end. At the very least, is it unreasonable for me to ask for store credit toward Brenspeed purchases with the $1000 I put down?

What do you guys think about this? What should I do? I'm not going to lie...saving my $7100 wouldn't be the end of the world for me...

Of course, I'm going to call them tomorrow and get some more information.

Thanks.

Brent will work something out. If the terms of warranty coverage have changed, then the terms of your deposit have changed. He's a reasonable guy.

Yeah its exactly what the 2 posters said above....hopefully it was not ordered and if it was hopefully he can prevent it from being shipped out from the manufacturer. So saleen was bought out by another company? I did not know this and I would have concerns too? So I wonder why Steve Saleen got rid of the company....times must be tough for everyone indeed....anyone care to elaborate on this? thanks

this is a good reason to shy away from deposits
whenever practical. i feel for ya East87 and i know
brenspeed will do everything they can, but it may
be out of their hands. the legal fight might be with
the main supplier not the middleman.

good luck and i hope it all works out, worse case scenario
is you proceed with the SS.

Thanks for your help, guys. Here's a link to the latest news, mygt500.

To back up my case a bit, I'm going to call MJ Acquisitions today to inquire about the warranty coverage for Saleen parts before I talk to Brenspeed.

Well after talking to Seth, he assured me that the (formerly) Saleen aftermarket parts division wasn't affected by the recent buyout in the ways that have been described (voiding of warranties). I'm good to go through with the install

So it was the money issue (or lack thereof) that forced the sale....sucks and thanks for the link

Proceed with S/C but I would get that in writing (the warranty) with regards to what Seth told you
