Default Am I ready for synthetic

I'm about 5 days over due for an oil change. Had my first done at 1K mi. at the dealer and I now have 2700 mi. I've run my car hard a few times and I'm pretty sure it's broken in. Is the car ready to go full synthetic (AMS, Mobil 1, Syntec) or should I do one more with the Ford synthetic blend that came in the car? Also anyone have a definite part # for the right K&N oil filter, or other filter recommendations?

yes, you are ready for syn. some people don't believe there is a difference but for a few extra dollars, i can sleep better at night knowing that i am doing everything possible to protect my sh1tbox.

I put Syntec in at 2500 miles. It was worth 18 rwhp, too...

Theoretically, synthetic can actually free up a horsepower or two. [8D]

I use it for protection and peace of mind, not because I am under the impression that it would add power.

I'm a believer that there is a difference with the synthetic formulas which is why I wanted the engine to get good and broken in before going to the wear-reducing synthetic. So which do you all prefer of the main stream brands (AMS, Mobil 1, Syntec)?

Amsoil is considered to be the best, but Mobil 1 is also very good.

I'm embarrassed to say that I don't even know what kind is in mine [&o]....my car is still fairly new and i got free oil changes when i bought it. All i do is go to the dealership and pay them an extra 20 bux for full syn.

Thanks for the peace of mind. I just changed the oil on my car @ 1K and used a semi-synthetic oil instead of just regular oil. For the 3K I will go full synthetic especially since the GT is only used on weekends. The rest of the week it sleeps in the garage.

Castrol Syntec is not a real synthetic oil, Mobil 1 is the way to go unless your an Amsoil nut or Royal Purple or whatever you wanna use.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I think I'll go with Mobil 1 this weekend.

I did my first oil change at around 1500 miles and had Mobil1 synthetic put in... I thought i was crazy because I actually noticed a difference, or at least I thought I did. Maybe there is some truth to it, but I was recommended to use Mobil1 by a few friends who are big car guys, so for now I'm pretty happy with it.
