Default Stock, 3.73, 4.10, 4.30 or 4.50?

Who can tell me what the difference is? Is the higher gear number going to allow faster acceleration? I've heard that going any higher than 3.73 will give you crappy MPG on the freeway.

Whats your gear size?
How's the acceleration?
Why did you chose it?
While in 5th gear, what are the RPM's sitting at while going 80 MPH?

Any other information would be good. I wanna put somethin' else in there for some added torque but I don't want to sacrifice MPG while on the freeway.

Other Considerations: 1st gear is now VERY short, which in combination with my cam can make stop and go traffic a bitch. But that short 1st gear is gonna be a pain if you are doing AutoX or Track. Highway MPG stayed at around ~24-25MPG, but that is not at 80MPH (closer to 70). Course, my cam plays a large roll in my MPG so you can't really compare.

FWIW - I would not recommend going larger than 4.10's.

I don't know anything about mechanics. If I go for the 3.73's or the 4.10's will I need new cams?

First - don't sweat it that is why we are here =)

My gear upgrade was driven by my Cam selection, not vice versa (the aggressive Cam needs the shorter gears). FWIW - I would recommend going with the SCT Tuner and Tune first as you are going to need the Tuner to adjust for the gears.

If I didn't have the Cam's, I would probably choose a 3.73 considering how short first is now (but I am not a 1/4 mile guy either).

My next purchase will be a CAI and a new tune (I hear I'll be impressed). Then I'll be able to retune it for when I put in new gears. I was leaning toward 3.73's anyways.

Thanks alot.

The cai and tune should be your first mod. I went with the 4:10s and have no regrets. At 80, I right around 3k rpms and get 23-24 mpg highway. You don't have to have cams to get gears.

Are you a manual or auto? If you're a manual..the jump from 3.55's to 3.73 IMO is not worth the $$$.

My GT is a manual. Jumping from 3.55's to 4.10's is worth the money though?

How do you know you have 3.55 from teh factory? Most came with 3.31. The 3.55 was OPTIONAL.

4.10's is a big jump from the 3.55's. You will enjoy them. I have more 1st gear than most guys bscause I am running a 29" tall tire out back.....but it still accelerates very quickly.
