Default Question about running a O/R H-pipe

I recently added a Pypes O/R H-Pipe to my SSS Eliminator series Axle Back sytem which sounds bad ***.. My question is when I start up cold it almost sounds like I have an exhaust leak but I can't find it anywhere. I held my hand around every connection point and everything feels good. Is it common to get a slight tapping sound just from not running the cats. Like the harmonics of the engine or something? After it warms up I barely hear a tapping sound when I'm cruising and press on the throttle.. Anybody experience this? Thanks in advance..

Supaguy2u - The "Tapping", harmonics, resonance, and drone will all increase very noticeably when you go to an O/R H pipe. If you have done the basic checks (and it sounds like you have) you are probably fine.

Since the noise is louder when cold I would check to make sure there are no leaks by having someone cover the tailpipes for a few seconds at a time while you check the sealing areas again. sometimes it makes a difference on hearing and not hearing an exhaust leak but if you don't find anything then I'm with Fullsayl on this one as that noise is somewhat normal.

If you have an exhaust leak, even a small one, you should see a black mark like this...

That said, I have noticed more noises like you described when going to the O/R H.

is it coming from the exhaust manifolds? the pypes o/r h is notorious for not mating tightly to the passenger side manifold. i too had this problem. If this is indeed your problem, the easy fix is to have Brenspeed ship you come inserts that slip in the h pipe where it mates to the manifold. makes a good, tight seal.

+1 on the inserts! if its tapping ..its most likley at the manifolds.check really good to see if theres any leaking or discoloration in that area.

Ok, the h-pipe came with inserts that I used so I'm not sure.. I'm gonna gonna climb back under the car today and see if I can find anything. Its probably a good to give all those connections another couple turns incase some loosened up. Thanks for all the info!

If you've still only got the "h" section clamped, be sure to get it welded. It's notorious for leaking
