Default shift firmness on auto trans

I have noticed over time that my shift firmness from when I first got my tune last spring to now has changed. It's not as sharp or as crisp. I tried reloading the tune but it didn't make any difference. Anyway, I recently got put back to the stock tune(by the dealer) and the shifting was horrible. 1-2 was bad and 4-5 was even worse. Is the tune "bad" for the transmission and can it hurt it? Should I have the tranny looked at by the dealership?

Your computer needs to be 'reset' to relearn the tune settings. If you want to make sure you clear it, disconnect the battery for at leat 20 minutes. Then reload your custom tune and drive it normally for a couple of days before getting into it really hard.

Ideally, reloading your tune resets the computer, too, but some devices don't seem to do that. As a shortcut, instead of disconnecting your batter, you can 'Clear DTCs', even if you don't have any; that usually does a simple reset of the computer, with the current tune intact. Then after doing a clear, load your tune.

If after driving awhile, the firmness is not what you like, contact your tuner, or adjust the firmess from your tuner device (if enabled).

The auto tranny is not much fun when it's not tuned right.

Yeah, the auto tranny uses adaptive learning. When the battery is disconnected and then reconnected the KAM is cleared. Which means that the PCM will start a relearning process of your driving style and store this information in KAM.
With an auto it can take many miles of different types of driving situations before the auto will begin to shift normally.
This is all explained in your owners manual.

Now the good news, the auto tranny adaptive learning can be turned off. Your tuner can reprogram the PCM to have the auto tranny and torque converter respond the way YOU want them to.

With the tranny and torque converter tuned properly the car responds like a fricking animal.

Ditto, I have a bama race tune and it's insane off the line and pulls even harder afterwards.

I remember reading on here that BAMA tunes already turn the adaptive learning off. If so, then resetting the computer wouldn't matter for the OP. Is this true?

True, I believe Doug does shut off the auto tranny adaptive learning. As much tuning as he does, he could have missed it.

Good idea except there isnt a shift kit for the electronically controlled 5R55S.
Nice try though.
