I am on the fence between Magget's and hawgman's thoughts on the license plate issue. It would be nice to completely protect one's anonymity on the internet, but that is probably an exercise in futility. Just like trying to theft-proof your car, if someone wants the car (or your info) bad enough, they can get it... and you can't stop them. Especially, with something like a license plate. It is mandatory that it be out on display for thousands of people to see everyday. I'm just not sure what extra measure of security or protection I might get by masking/hiding my plates on internet pictures. I suppose I would be more concerned about someone here in San Diego who wants to do me harm, than someone in Texas, Florida, New York or wherever who just happened to see my plates on the internet.

That is soooo funny to me! I'd be more worried of someone who is sitting behind me at a redlight that is local rather than anyone on the internet in who knows what city. Can't get my lender info anyway, I paid cash!

Not that I don't appreciate your enthusisam toward paying extra money every year for your vehicle regiatration, but do you know how bad of an idea it is to post your tag number on the internet? It's pretty easy with free sites, and VERY easy with subscription sites to input a tag number and get everything from a name and address to a vin number, loan number, lender, and any other bit of info that you really didn't think was accessable.
Just offering friendly advice.

I was a PI for 5 years. Specialized in Skip Tracing (Missing Persons stuff).
If someone wants info on you they can get it using your name or even more evil is "social engineering".
I could be someone looking for you and by joining this forum and making friends eventually pick all the info
I need to steal your ID. Happens every day - even in the workplace.
It's really hard to keep anything private now days.
I once found a guy because he was a hunter... the one thing hunters won't give up is their hunting license
and hunting mags... he had not gotten a new hunting license in the new state - but he did have his subscription
forwarded. [sm=bustedsign.gif] I made a nice penny on that one.
I also made lots of money simply calling "information". Mr. Bowman, we haven't been able to locate my baby's Daddy.
Can you help?" Sure can. Hello? Information please. Yes ma'am, do you have a listing for Tony Bowman in x city and y state?
"Sure". $75 minimum for a 1 minute phone call. "People are stupid".

Hey WLDFILY!
[sm=ttiwwp.gif]
Want to let us see this new grill?
I installed my TRex Grill last night... will put the horse back on this afternoon, had to bring it to work so I could sand the backside to match the curve of the grill.

Like it has been said already if someone wants something bad enough they find a way to get it. The thing that I guess scares me the most than the internet is to be driving down the highway and people taking a back view picture of car with their cell phone. This has happened a couple of times and worries the hell out of me. I never thought I could get this attached to a car.

I just bought the X50 version and it has saved my butt twice in the past week. I am very impressed with the Escort detector's ability to detect behind hills at over a mile away. Hey Herknav did you buy the cordless so it's easier to take down before going on base?
