Wow
If that thing gave no warning and had no symptoms then it is going to be a difficult mystery to solve. Let us know how things turn out, I'm especially interested in what Spec has to say although I doubt you get in touch with them from what everyone else has experienced.

Good luck kolb02

SPEC will try anything possible to pass the buck. So many of their clutches fail that they could never afford to make it right. I've been lucky with mine, but I know many people who have not.

Who installed it? How were you launching the car?

There was a lot of heat generated for some reason (cause it burnt up, duh!). I've not heard about a lot of failures with the 3+. I think skyjock is still using that clutch and he has way more than 3 passes.

I did two high rpm clutch drops at the track and my stage 2 didn't seem to mind at all. I did learn not to launch at 5k with a whipple and 4.10 gears.

All that screeching was the 275/50/17 M&H drag radials screaming in agony.

I was launching at 4-5k every time but the slipping happened on the street when I was doing a burnout in second gear. Brenspeed broke it in and did the install.

Used and abused, looks like you are another notch on Spec's belt. I'm sure Brenspeed will take care of you though, they seem to have an impeccable reputation (don't see them willing to **** off a good customer and get crapped on the net over a $300 clutch)

I'd probably omit that tidbit of info. Burnout on the street with street tires I hope.

Doing burnouts on the street with DR is bad on the clutch. I smoked one clutch doing that.

I have 6k on my RST with 20 passes or so in the low 12s high 11s. Still does good. I missed 4th the other night and smoked it pretty good but I drove it around for a fewminutes, let it cool slowly and did some shifting and it's still like new.

Back from the dead!

What did spec or brenspeed say about this failure?

I stumbled upon this post while looking for a good deal on a spec 3+. It's funny to read things you've written years early.

I should let him respond to how that worked with brenspeed and spec. But I know he ran it for a season with the spec stage 3 clutch then ran a season with an automatic. I'm not sure the current state of his car, i think he parted it out and went back down to something a bit more tame. I'm pretty sure the reason for the switch to the automatic was purely on desire for best 1/4 mile times but I could be wrong, he might come in here and say what happened.

You're lucky Brenspeed installed it. They might help you out. SPEC would be more than happy to just hang you out to dry.

*edit. Nevermind. Ancient thread.
