Gearing question/opinions please
I have an 05 GT with a 5-speed. I was planning on getting 4:10's, but I wanted to see what you guys thought. My concern is that I'll end up losing time shifting so frequently. Basically 3:73's or 4:10 on a 5 speed?

The most important decision when getting new gear ratio is getting it done by someone who knows what the hell they are doing, seriously that is the biggest issue !!!
I would go with 4.10s for manual, 3.73s for auto.

it depends how much power you're going to run. all motor and the 4.10's may work out well for the strip. boosted or spraying a big shot and the gear may be a liability. if you loose traction or have to make an extra shift it may not help your time.

That all depends on usage.
Unfortunatly, there's no perfect gear; unless it's in a car dedicated to one purpose. For the rest of us, it's all a comprimise.
You give a little, and you take a little. You have to decide where the correct balance is. I'd love to have a lower first gear. But I'd hate to lose my high speed cruising.

currently I have a K&N air filter, Steeda high flow elbow (not CAI), custom tune, short throw shifter, and Pypes mufflers. I'm planning on adding some BBK shorties, FRPP Hot Rod Cams, and gears. I'd love to go FI, but unfortunately it's just not in the budget. My daily commute only gets up to 50mph so I'm not worried about that. Even if I go to the neighboring town, it's only gonna be 60mph.

i have always been told to use 4:10 with auto and 3:73 with 5 speed. I have a auto with a 4:10 and my friend has manual with 3:73 and we stay pretty competitive with each other

but aside from the noise issue i went through/am going through, the gears themselves are great! i chose the 4.10's and i love them. 2300 rpm @ 65mph on the highway, great accelleration arround town and on the highway, and another factor for me was that 3.73's probably wouldn't have been much different from the stock 3.55's my car came with. i wouldn't take a cross-country road trip with the new gears, but they fit my daily routine perfectly.
