5th gear power...it's a beautiful thing. I was toying with BMWs and Infinities in 5th gear on I-95 all night tonight. Toying with them...

I don't mind it.. fuel mileage isn't all that worse.. and its better in town.. i dont drive a lot on the interstate though.. about 10 miles to get to the otherside of town which i do atleast once a week.. usually more..

If you try you may still obtain gas mileage with the 4.10s.' I drove to Charleston, South Carolina from Augusta, Georgia at 75 miles per hour and obtained 25 mpg. I normally cruise at 80 at 2750 rpms. Here's some numbers I remember. 55 at 2000 rpms', then like every 250 rpm increased I go another 5 miles per hour faster. 2500 is like 65, 2750 is like 75 and 85 is like 3000 rpms. I have done the speedometer in 5th no loss on top end. my tire size is 255/45/18x9. My mods are : Brenspeed tune/C&L CAI, Mac Prochamber with stock cats, Mac axlebacks and Steeda Underdrive pullys.

Actually I don't know what I was thinking. I'm not on the fence about what gear to go to. It's obvious to me that 3.73 for auto is the way to go for anything less than a pure track car. When you do the math, 3.73 auto = 4.10 manual.

I really don't get what the big deal is... the 4.10s are awesome in the auto... though, next season I might swap them out and install the 3.73s myself just to see what the difference really is..

This puts my effective gear ratio through the roof. If I had a blower and was capable of 115 mph traps, with my DRs on the car a shift to 5th would be necessary.

I think 3.73s are perfect if shorter tires are used for racing. All in all, I find 4.10s a major PITA for anything other than street driving.
Just need to look a little harder. for the street I have M&H race master drag radials in 275/45/18 on the back of mine. I hook better that street tires and its still decent around town of fuel
