Lowering of car causing exhaust vibration?
 

My GT is still under warranty, and it sounds like some part of the exhaust system is vibrating when I start out in first gear.

I called the dealership to set up an appointment. I mentioned that the car had been lowered, and the service writer said that was probably the cause of the noise. He said it was probably a heat shield.

Is this common or possible, or is the service writer setting me up for something that should be covered by warranty?

I have a nasty rattle in 1st as well. I'm also lowered but I dont know if thats the cause or not. I checked my heat shields and one was rattly so I adjusted it so its tight again. Still rattles between 2500-3000 rpm. I searched the forums and found that its a known problem and is most likely not the heat shield. Its a metal spacer plate between the engine and tranny that vibrates at that specific rpm frequency. If your cars under warranty and is vibrating at that range, then they should remove it and fix it. Lowered or not.

Yeah i have the same problem and i just havent been able to get under it to fix it. i tried to heat shield first and mine were fine. my exhaust rattles real bad at an idle.

Check to see if your pipes are rubbing against either your axle or any part of the frame. This is a common problem and it is kind of a pain in the ass to fix.
you can also check the u shaped bar underneath the tranny.

Yes my exhaust was rubbing my rear axle. So I bet that is the problem........

Was it caused by lowering your car? I just want to make sure the dealer isn't trying to evade a warranty repair. The service writer said something about exhaust pipes having to be bent when lowering the car.

Hmm. Mine is lowered approx. 2.5 inch at the rear or so. I drove around and no noise whatsover. thank goodness.
