Default 91 octane with 93 tune?

I have heard of some people doing this. Is it ok? I can only find 91 octane where i live. So i have a 91 tune, but if it is not a problem can i safely run 91 and switch to a 93 tune?

Running a 93 octane tune while running 91 octane is not a good idea.

This is why I keep my SCT tuner in the trunk of my car with a tune in all octanes. I know the 3 tune package is $125 with Brenspeed and every time you make a mod you need a new tune but for me it is a security blanket. I have already got jacked for the $125 twice and will probably have to do it at least a few more times.......it is what it is.

Thanks for the info. I Thought it was not a good idea myself, but i have heard of people doing this. I'm sticking with 91 for 91.

Let me know when it goes boom! Serious if you had to do it because you only could get 91 and only had a 93 octane tune sure you can but I would only be putting around town, just normal driving and only long enough to either 1. get a 91 tune 2. get some 93 octane gas.

Why is my car gonna go boom? It was just a question. It may go boom for people doing this but not me. I was just curious.

Running 91 octane with a 93 tune is not a good idea as the PCM most likely will not be able adjust for that much of a difference in octane. You'll most likely get some detonation which can eventually cause some serious internal engine damage.

+1 on keeping the tuner in the car at all times.

If you like a car that pings or detonates then run a 93 tune with 91 octane in the tank.....it can and has happened where damage has resulted.....not worth the few ponies that you wont get with running the 93 tune with 91 gas....do so at your own risk.....OH AND DONT USE OCTANE BOOSTER!!!!

I run a 93 Brenspeed with 92 octane gas, Brent said to try it, if it doesnt ping there is no problem. I ALWAYS run the best gas...and keep my tuner with me.
