maybe i should have said, if i didn't
want hot rods, then the BBR's would be
at the top of my list.
i love my hot rods don't get me wrong.
the fact that BBR is local to you and that
they might be doing your tune, is a win win
situation and i don't think you can go wrong.

I have heard that some people have gotten minimal gains with the Hot Rods while others get 25 - 30 rwhp. I do plan on dyno-tuning the car there at their facility.
Hammeron - Given that these two cams are the same price, which would you go with? How did your mileage change after installing your Hot Rod cams?
Thanks...

this is a very tough choice, no doubt.
i would have to hear the BBR stage I's in
person, before i could say for sure which
one i'd go with if i were starting from scratch.
i think the hot rods lowered my mpg by 1-2
for sure.
i really think you'll be happy with either cam.
if you provided me with the BBR stage I cam
specs, i could do an overlay comparing them
to the hot rods and we could see the real
differences between the two.
what i would want are specs like this
(this is stock vs. hot rods).
Cams Stock vs. Hot Rods
IVO BTDC: 15 49
IVC ABDC 53 51
Total Duration 248 280
Lift 11mm (433) 12mm (472)
EVO BBDC 80 97
EVC ATDC 19 19
Total Duration 279 296
and here is the hot rod vs. stock overlay i
did some time ago.
BlowByRacing sells and installs both their Billet Stage 1 NSR cams and FRPP Hot Rod cams. They claim that they get more power with their Stage 1 NSR cams but still have a lopey idle.

I remember that drawing when you were doing your research. BBR's website has the following information on their Stage 1 cams...
227/233 .050" duration, .480/.480 lift, 114 LSA
Gross Lift Intake- .480, Exhaust- .480
Advertised Duration Intake- 270 degress, Exhaust-276 degrees
What else do you need for your comparison? I am not sure what IVO BTDC, IVC ABDC, EVO BBDC, and EVC ATDC mean. Should I ask them for this information?

sounds real nice. in a blind

even tell them apart.

They do sound very similar. I think the BBR might be a little bit more aggressive, but not by much from what I can tell.
I will say this, avoid regrinds. They are cheaper, but need shims and stuff to make them work which is just a hack. I'd rather have a more solid valve-train than something all shimmed up.
What's funny is I've heard all kinds of reports on hot rods and MPG. Some say they lose a little, some say none, one on another board (forget which) said he gained (that might be due to his previous tune being crappy). It will be interesting what I experience. This is something I'll report in my post a few weeks after I install them and give enough time for the PCM to re-learn everything.
