Default Just Installed Brenspeed J&L Racer and tune, questions

So my C&L racer CAI and canned tune from Brenspeed came in today and i installed everything and put the 93 tune on and went for a ride. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I didn't notice that much of a difference in how the car feels on the butt dyno. Everyone else raves about feeling like a different car, i can only notice better throttle responce for sure.

I also hear audible clattering at WOT in upper RPM range that was not there with the stock tune. Ideas? I put the 91 octane tune on instead, but i haven't had a chance to take it for a drive. My local gas station has 93 octane gas with no ethanol in it at all so the fuel should not be an issue.

Edit-- Meant C&L BTW

maybe the tune is off? I'm not sure but you should DEFINITELY feel the difference between the stock tune vs a bren/bama custom tune. I'd give brenspeed a call and explain to them your concerns

That audible clattering is called detonation. Contact Brenspeed, let them know you have detonation, and ask them to change the tune.

I'm hoping that you ran an entire tank of 93, filled it up again with 93, and THEN loaded the tune. Just topping off an empty tank with 93 isn't a great approach to ensure the correct octane(and correct octane fuel alone) is in the tank. Otherwise the gas is an 87/93 blend.

If you did ^^^, then give Brenspeed a ring.

Let us know what happens and what Brenspeed says. I just installed my C&L racer with Brenspeed 93 tune a couple weekends ago, and noticed a huge difference in power delivery and throttle response. They'll get it right for ya

Talked to them today via email, they think its poor fuel quality. i put the 91 octane tune on and things were fine. they are going to send me the tune again thought just in case it was corrupted during download. I want to run the 93 tune, but honestly I don't want to have to worry about detonation killing my motor. Maybe i should just run the 91 tune, it is fine and i notice a difference in performance for sure. What do you guys think?

In all honesty, there is a bigger difference between the 87 stock tune (w/stock airbox) and the 87 custom tune then there is between the 87 custom tune and the 93 custom tune. I didn't believe it myself when Brenspeed's own tech guys said that so I experimented. In other words, you'll find only minor differences between the 91 and 93.

Also, my 89 tune pulls harder down low than my 93 tune (which pulls harder in the higher RPM band). For my style of driving, I keep the 89 tune installed.

do these tunes just reset or do they remove the rev limiter? I assume they reset it. The car pulls to 6500 or so rather than cutting off at 6000. Just don't want to break anything. Would be nice if they gave a rundown w the tunes
