I have a 2006 mustang gt automatic that i bought used last month, since then i have installed a c&l intake and a brenspeed 91 tune. Today while at a drive through i noticed every 20 seconds or so, i would hear a popping sound coming from the exhaust. Tomorrow i am going to check for leaks from the exhaust. Also i have a bama 91 tune that i am going to use when i install 4.10's, should i try installing the bama tune just to see if it idles like that, or is it something serious like detonation?

today i couldnt see a leak because its raining, but i noticed its coming from the left boomtube muffler, or in that general area, it sort of sounds like metal tapping metal. Also i checked for dtc's and theres nothing.

maybe somthing simple like the heat sheild is lose or tapping againist the exhaust take a look.. the poping maybe back persure from the leak..

Sounds like something loose to me. I know when I did my exhuaust, my o2 sensor connectors were vibrating against the floor since everything's so "tight tolerance" under there. I had to put extensions on the rear o2s, thus needed to secure connectors somewhere. Ended up using zip-ties (a.k.a. tie straps or plastic ties) securing them to a hole in the transmission X-member. I also found that adjusting the front part of my exhaust made the rear shift backwards making the rear left hangar rub against the frame rail in the back. Check o2 connector clearance, leaks, and hangars. After that, I'd start checking running gear, as stated (plugs).

Is it only happening at idle?

Is it a popping similar to what happens when revs are coming down? Try to describe what it sounds like a little more accurately. It doesn't sound like an exhaust leak to me. It also probably isn't detonation.

i installed the bama tune and 4.10 and i dont hear the noise any more so i think it was the tune.
Btw sailing 220 how do boomtubes sound with the mac longtubes and prochamber?
