Default Auto Tranny Stuck In Park

My auto trans 2007 is stuck in Park, the lever will not move onto any other position. Anybody have this problem before?

Put your foot on the brake pedal and depress it first...

Or read the owners manual...
Anyone done that before.....

r3ading is hArd. I come here to look pretty pictures. Manual is good for keeping bag of chips shut.

I thought that button was to turn on/off O/D? Though I do remember reading something about a lock and automatic around that area, needed a key or something?

open up the little tab next to the shifter, your key should fit in there to unlock the shifter. If not use an alley wrench.

jk, don't use that.

How the heck did it get stuck in park?

The problem has been intermittant for a while, this time it really got me stuck. You are telling me if I lift up the trim around the shifter I should see some allen head bolt that needs some tweaking?

Read page 151 of this manual. This is for a 2006 but should be virtually the same between '05-'09.

The little silver plug on the trim surround (opposite the letter "D") lifts up to magically reveal a release for the shifter.

You dont 'turn the key'.
You remve the trim piece over the slot that you
are suppost to insert something long and skinny
(guess what, like the key, but anything long and
skinny will work. You are pressing a spring loaded
plastic locking tab thats internal to the shifter assembly.
An electric solenoid usually does this when you depress
the brake pedal. If you try and pull the shifter out of park
before depressing the brake pedal, the locking tab wont
allow it but depress the pedal before attempting to remove
the shifter from the park position and the solenoid pulls the
spring loaded locking tab out of the way and the shifter releases.
If you attempt to remove the shifter from park and then depress
the brake pedal, the locking tab becomes locked in that position
and the solemoid does not have enough uummmph to pull it
out of the lock position until you release the tension on the shifter
handle. Trying to get it out of park before pressing the brake pedal
over and over puts undue wear and stress on this plastic part and it
get worn to the point where it wont release with the solenoid.
Remove the plastic locking arm and enjoy being able to take her
out of park without your foot on the brake pedal.
