Question What heads to use on engine rebuild.

So I'm on my way to building my car back up after blowing a rod through the block.

I wanted to go with:
FRP part #
M-6049-N3VPA & M-6050-N3VPA CNC ported heads

Here's the shortblock she's going on: FRP M-6009-A463SC

However, they are on backorder from ford.
What other routes can I go?

Ideas please? Prices would help too... Much thanks.

How quickly do you need them? I had to wait three months to have my heads machined. If you need the car as a daily driver, I understand, but if I was doing a build, I think I would wait for the heads you listed.......being able to use a traditional spark plug really appeals to me. Too bad FRPP doesn't give any specs on the flow capabilities of these heads. That's why my tuner didn't want to go that direction.

I don't know if Livernois has a core exchange for rapid turnaround. Sutton definately does. The place that did mine does not have a core exchange, but they did some really good work on my heads. Are the FRPP heads that take the two piece plug on back order as well? There are some other places that will machine them, but not too many that will have core exchange.

FWIW, mine were $1799 including shipping.

Are the heads on back order or the short block? Personally, I would not spend the extra $$ (on ported 3V heads), unless it is burning a hole in your pocket.

Default Sorry...

It's the heads. They just came out as a new product for 2010 & have a significant backorder. No telling how long it will be if we ordered them.

I am thinking I may go with Fox Lake ported heads, I've heard good things about them.

$$ not really burning a hole in my pocket, but I gotta get some more power on a rebuild or else I'll really feel like crap for throwing a rod.

MM&FF did an article called Top Shelf Shuffle where they used Livernois CNC ported heads and cams. There is also Patriot Performance and Blow by Raing.

why, i hav ebene wondering if i shoudl do cams and heads when i drop the FRPP forged SB in my car later this year. I am doing the procharger install in a month or so if all goes well. Do you think for a goal of 550 rwhp the heads and cams are needed? Or can I put that money into the car elswhere.

from what I was told the stock heads will flow very well with a mild port job. Could invest the money saved into some really nice cams with srings, retainers and all that.
