Before I go in to Ford, I was wondering how long it took them to install yours and (if you don't mind of course) how much you paid. I called the nearest dealership and, unless I'm REALLY underestimating how much work this is, the cost seemed pretty high to me.
The dealer used Genuine Ford parts which cost more than FRPP parts which is why you get to keep your warranty. They will also recalibrate your speedometer saving you the cost of buying an after market tuner which will also keep your warranty in effect. The Ford rear end rebuild kit will be close to 700 bucks.
I got a dealer quote for that job. It was close to 1,400 bucks. They quoted 7.5 hours of labor.
I would think that dealers would get lots more work if they weren't so eager to rape every customer who wants to do business with them.
I got mine done at Coast Drive Line in Ventura California. They took all day so I believe the estimates that it is a lengthy procedure to do right. They did not simply replace the ring and pinion. They redid all the bearings and seals as well. Cost wanted about 700 for the Job. Everything out here is expensive.
