Default How to determine if car has chip?

I purcashed my 2007 GT off of a dealer's lot late last fall. The car is in perfect condition and was sold as a Certified Pre-Owned car with an extended factory warranty. The original owner traded it in for a GT 500. The car came with a K&N intake and air cleaner. I have been unable to contact the original owner to determine if the car was tuned for higher octane gas. Is there anyway that I, or the dealer, can determine if this car was tuned for 89 or 91 octane? The car runs great and has no check engine light issues or any isues for that matter.

These cars dont use chips, they have handheld tuners that write a new tune the the computer on the car. I doubt it was tuned as the K&N is made to use without a tune.

Call the tech support guys at Brenspeed and ask their advice. I believe if you buy a tuner with their tunes, you'll know as soon as you try to load one of their custom tunes. Even if you DO have a custom tune on the PCM now, at least with the new Brenspeed tunes you're sure what you have. And if you DO have a tune on it now, Brenspeed can help you through a no-start condition that might arise, just so you're aware.

Default Thanks for the replies

I am not offended about the K&N comments. I bought the car at a very fair price and the K&N intake and air filter was already installed with the stock pieces in a box in the trunk. Ultimately I will re-tune the car.

If its an auto trans then just floor it (in drive) and if you burn the tires going into second and third gear, well then, you know you have a good tune in there. A brenspeed tune will shift gears at about 6200 or so, not at 6000 like the stock tune.

Ok I resemble the remark about the K&N filter! I was under the impression of K&N filters and air intakes do not need any tuning? As far as knowing how to use a tuner, I would like to know how. I grew up in the 60`s & 70`s we didnt use tuners! Im sure there is lots of people who know how, But not me. I seen a a chip offered at Moss for mustangs
http://www.mossmuscle.com/Shop/ViewP...eIndexID=51317 (It was a performance module) Is it not the same as a chip? Any help would be appreciated!
